On today’s episode of JIMMY RANTS on the LLVLC Show, we talk about why a ketogenic diet should be considered when treating malignant gliomas.
“Don’t we want to at least look at any option that will extend lives?”
- Jimmy Moore
People ask me all the time with the research is on ketogenic diets and cancer. And the sad reality is it’s still extremely limited. Yes, we have seen some promising results in rat and mice studies. But that hasn’t translated into human trials of any significance yet.
Part of the challenge is the bioindividuality of the cancers. Not all of them feed on glucose which is why I saying keto is the answer for cancer is significantly wrong or at least incomplete. But ever since Otto Warburg found starving cancer cells of glucose as a beneficial effect for helping patients with tumors, the ketogenic diet has been an intriguing prospective adjunct therapy to traditional treatments.
In today’s episode of JIMMY RANTS on the LLVLC Show, I read from a July 27, 2020 study published in the journal Current Nutrition Reports entitled “Ketogenic Diets for Malignant Gliomas: a Review.” This paper goes over all the pre-clinical and clinical research as it relates to a low-carb, high-fat ketogenic diet and its impact on glioblastoma (brain cancer). They make the case that keto should be used at least as an adjunct therapy along with other traditional therapies like radiation.
