It's no secret that a lot of people are struggling to buy their first home, but what gets a lot less attention is the fact that across most of Australia rental prices and competition for homes is going through the roof.
Rents have decreased in some inner-city suburbs, but for the most part renters are paying more than ever for their accommodation, and every time you go to an open home you can expect to see more people doing whatever it takes to secure the lease.
The Quicky speaks to a regional real estate agent and an expert in housing affordability to find out why high house prices is having a knock-on effect on rental properties, and why no-one expects the problem to improve any time soon.
