#233 Hunting, Death, & Taking Notes - Steve Rinella

Listen Later

Podcast Notes Key Takeaways
  • When it comes to writing, the sum is greater than the parts:
    • “None of the instruments mean anything in absence of the orchestra” – Steven Rinella
      • Writing beautiful prose is great, but if the sentences don’t flow well and tell an amazing story, the writing isn’t worth much
  •  As a hunter, Steve has had a lot of encounters with death:
    • “I think that I’m hyperaware of death and how it comes” – Steven Rinella
      • “I have very close proximity to it…I think that a lot of people don’t haven’t had that but if they did, they would view everything in their life differently”
        • When you observe the process of life to death, you start to look at the world differently
          • “I have a hyper-realistic sense of what it means to be alive, like what goes into life”
  • Since COVID hit, many people moved out of big cities into less populated areas like Montana
    • This also means more game licenses are going to be sold. Wisconsin sold 40% more fishing licenses this Spring than a year ago.
      • Since people can’t travel out of the country and most events and festivals have been canceled, more people are going camping, hiking, and spending time outdoors.

Brought to you by the Nell Newman Foundation, Santa Cruz Medicinals, RPM Training, and “My Weekly Stories.

The Nell Newman Foundation is dedicated to humanitarian, scientific and environmental action that foster a resilient and restorative planetary ecology. They support the small, visionary, and perhaps untested organizations. They fund the underdogs and unpopular ideas Paul Newman championed.

RPM Training is a Norcal based active lifestyle brand founded on the idea that legit, purposeful functional training is the foundation of a truly full, adventurous life. I love their workout equipment and use it daily. Use the code KYLE10 at checkout and get 10% off any order.

Weekly Workout: 20min workout. AMRAP. 100 DU's. 20 pushups 30 lunges 40 sit-ups. That's it!

Santa Cruz Medicinals CBD has supported this podcast from day one. Their founder actually convinced me to start the podcast! They make a range of potent CBD products and my personal favorite is the Peppermint Tincture, which I use most nights before before I go to bed. Use the code KYLE10 at checkout, and get 10% off any order. Sore muscles, be gone!

I write weekly short stories, sometimes they’re funny. Sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss them.

Please consider supporting my work on Patreon. If you are financially strapped, just keep listening and give lots of high-fives. That’s all the payment I need.
