Steph interviews Dr. Phabillia Afflack about holistic postpartum care. Phabillia Afflack, MD is a board-certified OB-GYN and has a passion for holistic medicine and integrated care. She treats her patients as whole beings and understands that one's emotional suffering can manifest itself in physical pain. In this episode, Dr. Afflack helps us understand how to navigate our postpartum experience in a way that honors our mind, body, and spirit. She explains the difference between holistic obstetrics and a standard OB-GYN patient experience and what we can do to advocate for the best care. She also gives us lifestyle tools and strategies, within our control, that can help us stay low-risk throughout our pregnancy to help with a smoother labor and delivery and transition to postpartum.
Dr. Afflack is also a medical advisor to Needed, a perinatal nutrition company that we know and love here on the Doctor Mom Podcast. If you’d like to experience the wide range of support Needed offers, from their prenatal multivitamin, to their pre/probiotic designed with moms in mind, to their stress, sleep and relaxation support, head to thisisneeded.com, and use code DOCTORMOM for 20% off.

Dr. Phabby attended medical school at Pennsylvania State College of Medicine Hershey and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York, New York.
Dr. Phabby's love for Holistic Medicine and Holistic Obstetrics and Gynecology began during her college years living in Harlem. She was a dedicated member of the Caduceus Society — a philanthropic society for physicians — and organized community outreach programs. Three times a year, they would visit children at the Mother Hale House, a Harlem center for children born to addicts, and it was there that she learned the healing power of love. As a member of the American Women's Association, she also provided free breast examinations to women.
Above all, Dr. Phabby's passion lies in the relational importance of Doctor/Patient care. She enjoys treating patients as whole beings and understanding that one's emotional suffering can manifest itself in physical pain. She admires that women are three-dimensional beings — mind, body, and spirit — and she recognizes the importance of treating them as such to achieve a well-balanced lifestyle.
