Jason Couto spent his summers as a teenager up on a roof with his brothers. Working for his father Gil’s construction company, he learned everything about the family business so that someday he could do more than lay shingles.Now 36, Jason owns Couto Construction along with his middle brother Derek. What his Portuguese immigrant father started in 1987 remains a family business, with Jason, Derek and older brother Brian leading the way since 2008.“We’re proud to be a family-owned business,” said Jason. “We grew up working for my father, and he instilled in us our work ethic and how important a happy customer is. Doing quality work and customer satisfaction is still what we base the company on.” Just as he worked hard to learn the trade, Jason applied the same intensity to the business end. He’s crossed the country to earn manufacturer and industry certifications, including becoming a licensed hoisting engineer and a shingle quality specialist. He continues to learn as he helps handle finances, marketing, sales, project estimates, and more.In addition to Couto Construction, he and Derek also own Couto Brothers Development, Couto Brothers Realty and Couto Properties. Jason is a licensed Realtor and an active real estate developer. Jason is also a member of the Portuguese Business Association.In his spare time, Jason enjoys spending time with his family. He also likes playing soccer and golf, scuba diving and watching movies.
