Do you know how SLPs fit into the dyslexia intervention process?
In this episode, I am talking to Jeannette Washington about dyslexia and what an SLPs role is in treating children with dyslexia.
Jeannette Washington, M.Ed. has worked as both a Speech Language Pathologist and Software Engineer. Her experience working largely with dyslexic learners has earned her recognition in The Washington Post alongside the cofounder of the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity. Jeannette is trained as a LETRS instructor which is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association.
Learning to code further ignited her passion for special populations in the tech industry and inspired her to write the book Technical Difficulties: Why Dyslexic Narratives Matter In Tech. Jeannette can always be found boasting the importance of accessibility, inclusivity, cognitive diversity (or neurodiversity), and equity in tech.
We talk about the early indicators of dyslexia, why dyslexia is not one-size-fits-all, ways you can move forward and help your students, and much more.
If you want to learn more about your role as an SLP when it comes to treating children with dyslexia, this episode will be so informative for you!
