Recovering addict and South African LCHF conference organizer Karen Thomson and Scottish nutritionist and obesity scientist Emily Maguire are our guests today in Episode 930 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show.”
An historic international event took place last month from February 19-22, 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa when a gathering of 17 of the world's biggest experts on low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic diets gathered for a first-of-its-kind four-day medical conference called The Old Mutual Health Convention. Our host Jimmy Moore was asked to participate and he was privileged to help bring these speakers together for event organizer Karen Thomson from "Sugar Free Karen." And one of the attendees who was reporting live on social media from the conference was a nutritionist named Emily Maguire from the "Low Carb Genesis" blog. These three share their thoughts about this incredible event that will be made available online very soon and is heading to London and Washington, DC over the next year.
Listen in to hear Jimmy, Karen, and Emily talk about how this event came about, the strong leadership Professor Tim Noakes is providing the LCHF movement in South Africa, the dream-turned-reality to put this conference on, how half of the medical professionals in attendance weren't necessarily supporters of low-carb, high-fat at the beginning, highlights of the most memorable speakers, the amazing low-carb food served at the conference, the unveiling of an online event coming soon, plans for future conferences in the UK and USA, and so much more. History was made in South Africa and it's only just the beginning of some exciting times coming in the next few years.
