Dementia is the leading cause of death in Australia. Over 433,300 Australians are living with dementia and an estimated 1.7 million people are involved in caring for someone with dementia. Dementia doesn’t discriminate. This year around 29,000 Australians are estimated to be living with younger-onset dementia, including people in their 30s, 40s and 50s.
Tully Smyth lost her mum to younger-onset dementia in 2019 and now Tully is an ambassador for Dementia Australia.
In this very important episode, we speak with Tully about her mum. Tully shares about her memories with her mum before her diagnosis, the small things Tully and her family started to notice in her mum’s behaviour, and slowly losing her mum over 17 years. Plus Tully shares about her own risk of developing dementia, how that risk changes the way she lives and thinks about her future with her partner, Ned.
