Adult ADHD as a Side Effect of Trauma? Is adult ADHD a side effect of trauma? Perhaps adults that were raised by malignant narcissists or other toxic parents, exposed to traumatic things and situations, develop ADHD. And not only ADHD.

Growing up, I suffered from severe depression and anxiety. My parents blamed my behavior on laziness or attention-seeking. After years of therapy, the truth came out. I wasn't lazy at all.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 35, but as I researched, it turns out that most likely my "ADHD" was actually caused by trauma.

While there are many factors that can contribute to ADHD symptoms, if you're not getting your needs met by your primary caregiver early in your life, it is highly likely that you will carry those same unmet needs into adulthood and your adult relationships.

So if you're an adult and you live with ADHD (diagnosed or not), make sure you read up on the signs and symptoms and how they might coincide with C-PTSD and being raised by a narcissist.
