Ever wonder what goes into the processing of a crop after you've delivered to a buyer? That is exactly what we go over with Mike Dick of Dicks' Seeds Farms of Munich, ND. Mike's business specializes in food and pet food grade flax that is sold downstream to other food businesses that make the end products that end up in store shelves. He shares the difference from cleaning seed for on farm use to cleaning for a food supplier.
We have the pleasure this week to have Howard Dahl on for happy hour. Howard is the CEO of Amity Technologies, specializing in sugar beet farm equipment, and Farm QA the Ag Tech company we all know for organizing an agronomists data.
If you are familiar with the names Bobcat, Stieger, Concord, Wil-Rich, Melroe, or Whishek you will want to give this a listen as Howard and his family have had an important influence to all of these brands.
We hope you all enjoy this one as much as we did!
There are a lot of products that have come available to use this last year; growth enhancing biologicals, amino acids, flavanols, PGR's, nitrogen fixers, and others have been promoted to improve your bottom line. But how do you know what to choose, when to try, and when to go all in on a product? We share our opinion how we like to navigate learning about new products and when you might want to try, or go all in.
Jason & Kyle share their thoughts on the group 14 kochia resistance confirmations that have been found in North Dakota.
If you were to tell God your plans, he would probably laugh and say buckle up because you're in for a wild ride!
We have Darren Dunham on the podcast this week, a fellow crop consultant in North Dakota and he shares his story of where life has taken him. It's only the cliff notes in the scheme of what Darren's story is, but we really enjoyed what he shared with us.
Then as any agronomist would do, we deviate and talk agronomy. Darren's approach to helping his clients is one we all need to listen to and think about.
We take 3 questions off AGvisorPRO this week to answer:
1) If I till in the fall and direct seed in the spring, is that considered conservation tillage?
2) Are EDTA chelated nutrients the proper form for foliar nutrition?
3) Dry or Liquide Soybean Inoculant, what is best?
You had 2 shows last week, now you get 2 question in one show this week!
2 recent questions that came into AGvisorPRO:
1- What options are there for removing volunteer alfalfa out of field peas?
2 - Is it ok to use 28-0-0 vs Urea + AMS on pasture grass?
What a great happy hour this week sharing a few drinks with Rick Swenson. Rick is the lead agronomist for Peterson Farm Seeds residing in west central Minnesota. We learn his journey from being a potato agronomist all the way to where he is now. He shares a project that he has been a part of sine coming on board with Peterson Farm Seeds that provides a great summary agronomy insights that everyone can find useful. Also a fun story you'll have to listen all the way to the end for about how rick is a Guinness World Record holder....for now anyways...
Ground vs Air, is one superior over the other for fungicide in wheat?
This was a very detailed question that was asked on AGvisorPRO weighing out as many variables as possible; asking if removing the cost of application, is the efficacy of spraying fungicide through a ground rig that much better where it makes up for the wheel track loss?
We talk through this and share our thoughts.
Buckle in for a Monday version of the $H!T you need to know! A question originating off of the AGvisorPRO app in Alberta asking about non-glyphosate pre-seed burn down options in front of cereals.
