The beloved Taylor Jenkins-Reid novel, Daisy Jones & The Six, told the story of a band who catapulted to fame in the 1970s before splitting apart in a spectacular breakup, creating a great album in the process. A new TV adaptation brings this story to life, complete with an original album. First, we speak with showrunner Scott Neustadter and executive producer Lauren Neustadter about their work on the series. Then, we're joined by music supervisor Frankie Pine and chief music consultant Tony Berg who will discuss the process of putting the album together. "Daisy Jones & the Six" is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
In a new play, a Bengali-American PhD student named Choton visits his family back in Kolkata alongside his Black American cinematographer boyfriend, Raheem, to interview locals on queer hookup apps. As Choton continues his research, he switches between Bangla and English, Grindr and academia, while wondering about the life he could have lived in India. Writer and director Shayok Misha Chowdhury join us to talk about the bilingual production, "Public Obscenities," running at SoHo Rep until April 9.
[REBROADCAST FROM January 9, 2023] The celebrated novel, Women Talking, by Miriam Toews, follows an isolated community of Mennonite women who must decide what to do after learning they had been suffering sexual attacks by men within the commune. Writer and director Sarah Polley joins us to discuss adapting the novel for the big screen. We are also joined by actor Jessie Buckley, who stars in the film as Mariche, a woman skeptical that leaving the community is the right thing to do.
We continue our series The Big Picture, celebrating Oscar nominees working behind the camera. NOTE: This segment has been edited to correct a mistake in the intro. Bertelmann's score for "Lion" earned him an Oscar nomination. It did not win the award.

For years, the hip-hop group De La Soul's music from the years 1989 to 2001 had been kept off of streaming platforms. Classic albums such as 3 Feet High and Rising, Stakes Is High, and De La Soul Is Dead were mired in clearance and other legal issues related to the large amount of samples they used in their production. Last Friday, six De La Soul albums from this period finally became available to stream. Music journalist Marcus J. Moore is currently in the process of writing a biography about the group, and he joins to tell us more about the history of the group's founding in Long Island, listen to some tracks, and take your calls.
