An inexperienced mother is most vulnerable because she has not come into her own yet. I dare someone to to try and harrass Barb while breastfeeding her third child! Let the loves commercial below, practice does make perfect!
Why are barely covered nipples and genitalia ok in a bikini but god forbid someone might see a glimpse of something while a baby is latching or un-latching so offensive?

We haven’t had a podcast for a while! Michelle’s breastfeeding story has many ups and downs! This week on the podcast, Michelle shares the story of breastfeeding her one year old daughter. She comes from a very supportive breastfeeding family who nurse for years, and knew she wanted to breastfeeding as long as baby wanted. There are some cultural differences and challenges that Michelle has faced along the way. Join in and listen as Michelle shares her journey.
Michelle dealt with isolation living away from her family that she is very close to. She was incredibly sore in the beginning! Sadly, she felt she had post-partum depression, but like many of us, was too embarrassed to tell others that she was suffering. Fortunately she has made it through these challenging times and is still nursing her little one! For help with breastfeeding older babies, here is podcast discussing this issue.
For sore nipples listen to our podcast and take a look at what kellymom has to say! No matter what the internet says, nipple pain is not normal! If your pain is getting worse, not better, or if you have any visible damage, please consider a private consultation.
If you feel you may have postpartum depression, maybe take this quick assessment. We very much encourage you to reach out and get help. Tell your doctor or midwife if you feel like you are struggling with depression. Let your partner know as well. Tell people, don’t be embarrassed. Anyone can suffer from post-partum depression. Even Brook Shields! Maybe join a support group to help with loneliness? The power of support of groups!
Thanks for listening! If you want to share your breastfeeding story, please email [email protected] Mothers out there who are in the thick of it, breastfeeding those little one, need to hear your stories! Please share your story!

This week on the podcast we talk about numbers! Birth weights, how accurate they might be, comparing one scales weight to another, and all the variables to take into consideration when looking at numbers. Sometimes the scales might not be calibrated properly. What if the baby was weighed with a full belly and full of poop? The next weight might have your baby starving and you might have just changed a blow out diaper! How was that particular feed if you are doing a pre and post weight? If it was a terrible feed, you would expect a low amount of breastmilk transfer. If the mother feels it was the best feed every and the amount of breastmilk transfer is low, that is much more of a problem. What’s in the numbers and why might they or might they not be important. Do they show the whole picture? Often times not. We don’t want to be making infant feeding decisions without having all of the information.
We also talk about breast pumps! It drives us crazy the way that breast pump companies don’t always do enough testing on their products.

This week on the podcast, Barbara and Barb chat all things breastfeeding support groups. Why are they helpful and who might benefit from a breastfeeding support group? Many people feel that a “support group” is old fashioned or if you need to go to one, it is a sign of weakness. Far from it! Gathering with a group of like minded people feels good!
Not all of our moms are singing Kumbaya, and talking about how easy breastfeeding is, believe me. Many of our mothers are struggling with pain, supply issues, you name it! It is a chance to talk to other mothers, share ideas, and get some professional suggestions as well. Some mothers hardly have any milk and their babies won’t latch.
All we ask for from our attendees is that they are kind and respectful to one another and they like (it hard to “love” breastfeeding when you are struggling!) breastfeeding, and think it is the healthiest way to feed babies.
On the other hand, if breastfeeding is the easiest thing you have ever done, join us as well! It is great to see what breastfeeding was designed to be like! If only we didn’t have so many things interfering with this natural process
The Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor offers a weekly, free drop in support group for moms.

This week on All Things Breastfeeding, host Barbara Robertson who is the owner of the Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor, shares her second breastfeeding story. This story was delayed in being recorded due some unexpected changes in Barbara’s family. She wanted to get the story just right! The great breastfeeding relationship you have when the babies are little, that closeness and connection, can last a lifetime. Breastfeeding is so much more than food!
Even though Barbara was a La Leche Leader and an experienced mother, she still had some challenges. She needed to reach out and get help 0o work out the little kinks in her nursing relationship. Recovering from the emotional trauma of her first birth was key to having the kind of birth and breastfeeding experience that she wanted. Having the right team in place, midwives and doulas, helped tremendously as well. La Leche League again, turned out to be a life saver! We can all use a little help here and there! With Barbara’s first baby, breastfeeding was quite a challenge. The second baby was certainly easier but still had some bumps in the road.
The more we can share our stories, the more connected and less alone we can feel on our own journeys! The mothers who have shared their stories have found this to be a great experience. Benefit yourself and others! If you would like to share your breastfeeding story with us, please email [email protected].

I wanted to highlight that it can be hard in the first year for listeners who might be facing problems and getting discouraged.” Thank you for giving us hope!
