  • All Things Breastfeeding Episode 21: Introducing Solids

    This week on the Podcast we are sharing our results from a recent survey on introduction of solids! We had over 500 participants and we are excited to share with you! Although we were promoting meat as a good source of protein on the show, for all of you vegetarians and vegans, we support you too! There are excellent legumes and other sources of good iron, not just meat.

  • All Things Breastfeeding Episode 20: Supplementation
    Supplementation?

    This week on the podcast Barbara and Barb discuss the ins and outs of supplementation. When is it necessary, and when might it not be necessary? We also discuss how to appropriately supplement your baby, if it is in fact needed. Sometimes we can be giving our babies extra food when we don’t need to and sometimes we may need to give our babies extra food if needed. Knowing the facts about supplementation is important so you can understand the process and what the possible pros and cons might be.

    We know that babies need about 2.5 oz per lbs of their weight after day ten or so. We expect babies to lose weight for the first three days or so. But then, we expect them to gain ON AVERAGE about 1 oz per 24 hours for the next 14 weeks or so.

    Milk sharing can be an option for your baby if you are struggling with breastmilk supply.

    Podcast episode on breastfeeding your newborn baby -This is another helpful episode to help you know when breastfeeding is going well. We go over the signs of a well fed baby. Feeding the baby adequate nutrition is always our first priority!
