Today we are excited to be joined by Makenna Damhorst who will be joining the gymnastics team at Penn next season. Makenna has a really unique story - she became a level 10 her senior year after dealing with some injuries, which made recruiting a bit of a challenge. She applied to a few schools, including UCLA where she was a member of the club gymnastics team and D1 rowing team. All the while she continued to work hard in the gym to learn new skills and will now get to achieve her ultimate goal of competing for a D1 gymnastics team in 2025 with Penn.

This week we are joined by Hannah Aoki, who announced in May that she had accepted a full athlete scholarship to the University of North Carolina. Hannah was a little bit of a late bloomer to college recruiting as she didn’t become a level 10 until her sophomore year of high school but she was determined and willing to do whatever it took to achieve her goal of becoming a college gymnast. After winning the all-around title in the All-Star East division at nationals this year, Hannah received the phone call she had been waiting and hoping for from UNC. Today Hannah joins us to talk about her recruiting journey and share some advice about trusting the process and not comparing your journey to others.

This week we are joined by Megan Brueck, who is a rising junior at Yale, to talk all about her recruiting journey. Megan was injured her junior year of high school, so she was a little under the radar when it came to recruiting, but she ended up getting accepted into Yale – one of the top Ivy League schools – and has some tips for gymnasts who might be interested in Ivy Leagues.

We’re less than a week away from the start of the recruiting period for the class of 2026 and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off season 2 of our Recruit Reflection series than LSU commit Nina Ballou. Nina is a 5x national champion, a 3x Nastia Cup qualifier and was one of the top recruits in the class of 2025. We’re so excited to have Nina back on the show to talk all about her recruiting process from her jam-packed schedule with official visits, when she knew she was meant to go to LSU, and how she shared the news with her friends and family, including the hat ceremony she did at her high school that went viral on TikTok.
