Eight South American countries in the Amazon basin have agreed to launch an alliance to combat deforestation and protect the rainforest. Nigeria says the country and the West African regional bloc - ECOWAS - prefer a diplomatic and peaceful solution to the situation in Niger. And China has allocated more than 100 million dollars for agriculture disaster relief support in the aftermath of devastating flooding.
