Trauma doesn’t necessarily need to be something that happens to us in our lifetime; it can also be something that has been passed down to us through generations of our family. When this happens, you feel inside yourslef a burden that it’s challenging to deal with since it’s not really yours, and usually, it takes deep internal work to face it and heal it. One example of this type of generational trauma it’s the Mother Wound, which is the pain of being a woman passed down through generations of women in patriarchal cultures. And it includes the dysfunctional coping mechanisms used to process that pain.

In this episode, I will share my personal experience with Mother Wounds, my healing process, and why I made it my mission to help other women heal from their Mother Wounds.

It is uncomfortable to put ourselves out there, asking for things, expose a need fed by our dreams, and get a door closed in our faces. Still, the decision to turn a negative answer into a definitive response is ours; we get to decide if the "no" we hear is the final word. Our guest's successful career is a testament to that.

How are you making a positive impact on the next generation of amigas?

While we can’t go back and change our own childhood and experience as a young Latina, we can invest our time and service into helping the amigas who are currently going through the same struggles we once did.  

In this episode, I am joined by Patty Godoy-Travieso, the Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Men's Central Jail in LA County.  Patty is also the co-founder of ELLA, which is better known as Empowering Leadership in Latina Athletes, a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes. The mission of the ELLA organization is to support young female Latinas to become leaders of tomorrow through sports and academic excellence.

As human beings, we live our lives mostly alone and with our immediate family around us. This can be good for most of us, but it’s undeniable that sometimes there is the need for something bigger, like a community that can support us in moments of need. We are never alone, there is always a community out ready to help us if we look around us. As the world is becoming bigger and bigger, relying on our community is what will make us stronger and ready to face everything life will bring to us.

Today’s guest, Fatima Djelmane Rodriguez, will tell us how she started working in the nonprofit sector, what it’s like to be a woman CEO and what the goal of the Ronald McDonald House of Charities of SoCal is.

Fatima Djelmane Rodriguez is a native Angelino raised in the San Gabriel Valley.  She attended Ramona Convent Secondary School, earned her BA in Communications from USC’s Annenberg School for Communication, and her MA from the University of Texas at Austin’s Radio, Television, and Film program. Upon graduating from UT Austin, Fatima began her search for work in the nonprofit sector. Devoted to community service, Fatima wanted to work for a grassroots organization focused on community building and empowerment. Her search led her to Proyecto Pastoral where she was employed for nearly eight years. Fatima then transitioned to work for Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times in January 2013. She was drawn to their mission of building healthier lives for children with cancer and their families. Fatima was promoted to CEO and assumed the position on January 18th, 2022. She’s excited to be at the helm of RMHCSC, with a deep passion for the organization’s mission and deepening our impact throughout Southern California.

She is also the producer of Gentefied, The Tutors, and has some exciting projects currently being created.

How important is free will in your life? We live our lives day after day, but we rarely stop to think about the power of our own free will. We can choose everything, from the clothes we wear to the job we want or the people we want to have around. Making free choices has become second nature to us, and we rarely think how lucky we are for that. Having free will is a gift, and not everyone has it. This is why we should not take our freedoms for granted. We get to fight for free will for ourselves and our communities. Take a moment to honor this blessing today, my friends. 

Today’s guest, Stef Mariani, will tell us how she got free of a religious cult, found freedom in her music career, and decided to create the Stay Gold Movement. 

Stef Mariani is a singer-songwriter. She started an internationally inclusive movement founded in Hawaii based on her recent Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning album, Stay Gold. The Stay Gold movement’s goal is to help people live a life of meaning and purpose by learning and implementing the eight pillars of the state gold principle. Stef recently released her newest single, called Use My Imagination. This song is a part of her latest project under the Stay Gold movement. Stef shares with over 1000 members from Hawaii to Kenya to Europe how to stay gold or true to themselves in an ever-changing world. Her outstanding results caught the attention of Huffington Post's Deepak Chopra and other various national media outlets. Stef also currently sits on the Forbes musician coalition.

When was the last time you advocated for yourself? 

As women, we are often undervalued, taken for granted, and expected not to say anything when we experience something that feels wrong or inappropriate.  Self-advocacy is a superpower that we can utilize to stand up for ourselves, show others that we know our worth, and discover new possibilities.

Maria is a former Wall Street broker, international speaker, self-advocacy coach, and author of the book "You'll Never ...": The Journey to What is Possible Through Self-Advocacy. After experiencing harassment and abuse in both the workplace and at home, Maria came to a breaking point and knew she had to stand up for herself. This led Maria to go through an amazing transformation by rediscovering her confidence and knowing her worth. Today, Maria’s life long commitment is that all women feel safe and valued in school, work, and home.

What would you do if you found out you've been canceled? This is not just a random question. When I discovered my podcast was canceled from Spotify for an alleged "music distribution violation," I was shocked and didn't know what went wrong. I am not a music podcast, so this seemed like a huge misunderstanding and an unbelievable mistake. Then, it hit me. I felt like my fundamental right to express myself freely was utterly taken away from me. I felt violated of my own constitutional rights.
