Prosecutors have charged a Chicago college student with hate crimes, arson, damage to property, disorderly conduct and reckless conduct after Merlin Liu admitted to burning a cross in Grant Park. Liu uploaded a video and then gave an interview to a local reporter claiming he didn’t realize the historic relevance and severity of a burning cross in this country. Liu claims he was simply protesting the Trump Administration and the cross had nothing to do with race.

After following up on a tip, police have found a body in a wooded area that matches the description of missing 39-year-old Elena Katherine Moore. Moore, a personal trainer, was last seen leaving the gym and walking into a wooded area. Her husband reported her missing the following day. While police haven’t ruled out foul play, ring camera footage from a week before she went missing, shows a bizarre moment where Moore appears to impersonate a DoorDash delivery worker.

18-year-old Romanch Mahajan was celebrating his high school graduation with his parents and younger brother with a once in a lifetime trip to NYC. The family decided to take a relaxing ride through Central Park in one of its iconic horse drawn carriages. Trump backed GOP candidate Jackson Lahmeyer has dropped out of his congressional race in Oklahoma, just one day after Election Day. Lahmeyer was headed toward a runoff in November when a British tabloid printed flirty text messages between Lahmeyer and a former campaign staffer who was not his wife. Lahmeyer released a statement saying he and his wife had already dealt with the matter privately, but decided to suspend his campaign to avoid further distraction to his family and the church where he serves as pastor.

A New York judge sentenced 62-year-old serial killer, Rex Heuermann to three consecutive life terms plus 100 years to life for the murders of seven women. Heuermann had to listen to dozens of victim impact statements detailing the heartbreak so many families have had to endure based on his crimes. As the judge gave the harshest ruling possible for Heuermann, we also heard from his now ex-wife and daughter who did not attend today’s sentencing, but asked that the focus be on the victims and their families.
