Attention Whores: What is Histrionic Personality Disorder & How Is It Different from NPD?
Today, we're talking about the official DSM diagnosis criteria for Histrionic Personality Disorder and How It Differs from Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Ever had a friend who would flirt with your significant other or who had an affair with her boss at work? What about that lady you know who always has her boobs hanging out or who is constantly seeking attention from everyone in every room?
Know anyone who you jokingly (or otherwise) call an attention whore? A drama queen? Drama king, maybe?
In today's video, I'm telling you about histrionic personality disorder, which is one of the disorders in the DSM5.
There's a mnenonic device (not mine) that is often used to describe the disorder -PRAISE ME, which I'll explain and detail for you.
HPD is defined by the American Psychiatric Association as a "personality disorder characterized by a pattern of excessive attention-seeking emotions, usually beginning in early adulthood, including inappropriately seductive behavior and an excessive need for approval."
You will often find that people with HPD are very lively, dramatic, vivacious, enthusiastic and especially flirtatious. People are drawn to them - but they have this way of causing havoc all around them. Watch the video - I'll fill you in on the rest, plus I'll explain how HPD differs from NPD.
