"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."
This quote has been attributed to Roman philosopher Seneca. Thomas Jefferson said something similar, "The harder I work, the luckier I get."
Or did he? I've seen that quote credited to a dozen different people.
But it's a good quote. And it absolutely applies to your podcast.
Rik Roberts recently sat down with comic Dusty Slay for an interview on his School Of Laughs podcast and this is one of the things they discussed. Dusty's comments on being prepared and taking advantage of opportunity were the inspiration for this episode. If you want to hear the entire interview with Dusty, you can listen to it here. And if you want to laugh at Dusty's jokes, go here.

People change. Plans change. Podcasts change.
You launch a podcast that's the perfect match for you. Everything is great, until one day it's not.
Then what?
Do you remove everything you've done and start over from scratch or try to salvage what you've got?
It depends. But the good news is that you usually make some big changes to your podcast and its direction with a few small tweaks...

This completes my fifth month of releasing daily episodes and I've been thinking a lot about episode frequency. Specifically, "How often should I release a new podcast episode?"
Daily is fine. At the beginning of the year, I made the commitment to release a new episode daily for at least 365 days.
But what about next year? Will I still want to keep up this level of episode creation?
And more importantly, is a daily podcast the best way to help the people who listen? Is it overwhelming? Does episode quality suffer because of the tight schedule?
More thoughts on the subject on this episode...

Miley Cyrus sings about it. Sammy Hagar sings about it, too.
Come on baby close your eyes let go
This can be everything we've dreamed
It's not work, that makes it work on
Let the magic do the work for you
Were they singing about podcasts? No. But don't think for a second "the best of both worlds" can't apply to your podcast, because it can.
In this episode, I talk about it. And I'm still talking about Jeff Sanders. I also talk about The Book Marketing Show.
Listen up and let the magic do the work for you...

Jeff Sanders had a party to launch his current book, The Free-Time Formula. It was in downtown Nashville and I didn't feel driving, so I decided to take the bus.
My plan was to create an episode around the trip and the people I met at the party...
That didn't happen.
What did happen is on this episode.

Stormy Daniels wasn't paid for the interview that aired on 60 Minutes yesterday, but there were plenty of media outlets who would have loved for her to take their money.
Podcasters face the "paid interview" dilemma more often than you'd think. There are plenty of people offering to be on podcasts for a fee.
Are these people worth it? Usually not. The good people are doing interviews for free. In this episode, I'll tell you why...
