There's a common promotion mistake that I saw all the time when I was in the music business. Unfortunately, it's quite common in podcasting as well.
It's an honest mistake. In fact, calling it a "mistake" might be a bit harsh. The end result is the same regardless of what you call it though -- your podcast will nosedive shortly after launching.
In this episode, I talk all about this problem and how to make sure it doesn't happen to you.

John Lee Dumas has been podcasting daily for the last 2000 days. Today is the final daily episode for his podcast, EOFire.
Few people have had as much influence on independent podcasters as John Lee Dumas, especially when it comes to daily podcasting.
Now what?
That's what I'm talking about on this episode. And if you'd like to answer the "Question Of The Week," reach out to me.

Got some feedback on yesterday's episode about Tony Robbins' #MeToo SNAFU. Had a few requests to talk more about "feedback and backlash," which I do on this episode.
Any time you release your message to the world, you're opening yourself up to feedback. Many times, this feedback will be "negative."
How you handle feedback determines how successful you (and your podcast) will be. And this cuts both ways -- "good" feedback has detailed as many podcasters as bad feedback, if not more.
More thoughts on this episode... And if you have an example of "podcast backlash" you'd like to share, reach out to me.

Tony Robbins is one of those guys that everybody involved in self-development has a "love him or hate him" opinion on. Obviously, he's doing something right in terms of spreading his message and making impact, but there's plenty that he's done wrong.
Like his recent comments on the #MeToo movement.
Those didn't go over so well...
This situation, whatever you want to call it, can happen to anybody. This is especially true for people, like podcasters, with outlets for their messages. You say something that isn't correct, or gets misinterpreted, or is out-of-touch. Then what?
Making sure this situation doesn't happen to you is the subject of this episode.

Build A Big Podcast is daily. I'm here with seven new episodes per week.
How do I never run out of ideas for new episodes? That's what I talk about on this episode. I also present you with a challenge (and a method) to create more episodes for your podcast.

I get a lot of questions about podcast marketing. By far, the number one question I get is, "What's the one thing I can do to get more podcast downloads?"
That answer is, "Submit your podcast to Apple Podcasts."
That's it.
Just kidding. While submitting your podcast to Apple Podcasts is important and a step in the right direction as far as making it easily available to people, you need more than "one thing" to get your podcast where you want it to go.
But I do have "one thing" you can use as a foundation for the thousands of other things you're going to do to make sure your podcast isn't ignored...

Every podcast has to start somewhere. And some of those podcasts start with very few listeners.
More important that how many listeners your podcast has though is who those listeners are. If you have the right listeners, you can have a successful podcast without having a lot of them.
"Listeners" are more than just numbers on a stats page -- they're real people. And while this seems obvious when you read it, it's easy to forget when caught up in the day-to-day aspects of podcasting.
I talk about how to increase listeners and build momentum for your podcast in this episode. I also talk about gratitude in podcasting and why it's important when growing your show.

We see collaboration all the time in the entertainment business -- film, music, etc. And more and more independent content creators, such as YouTubers and podcasters, are getting in on the act.
More thoughts on how you can do this with your podcast on this episode...

Used to work with a "old school" radio guy who was tough to impress. Can't say I blame him for being skeptical of my hosting talent -- he took radio very seriously and I had no idea what I was doing. I was simply a "marketing guy" who'd been let in the door because I had a good idea for a radio show, not because I was great at hosting.
A couple of years into it, the engineer told me this guy had heard a podcast-only episode of the show and actually liked it. I couldn't believe it.
In this episode, I talk about this format and how you can do something similar with your podcast to build a better connection with your audience and get more downloads for regular episodes. I also share how a similar format is working for The Wally Show.

I decided to start an event to get podcasters away from their studios and put them together in the same room. It's called Podfecta and the first one if April 20 in Nashville.
Continuing on the "taking advantage of opportunity" thread of the last episode, on this episode, I talk about how Podfecta came to be and give thoughts on how you can be ready for when opportunity strikes for what you do.
