  • EP 57 - Patience

Patience, career change and trusting the process when life stops coming with a timetable.

It's Chantelle and Natalie, back on the mic with a big one.

At uni, weeks one to ten were laid out for us. Now we're building careers and lives with no syllabus, no end date and no guarantees. We get honest about why patience is harder when the agency sits with you, why "just enjoy the process" can feel like a wind-up, and how we're learning to wait without putting life on hold.

    In this episode:

    • Why patience feels easy when someone else sets the timeline, and hard when it's on you
    • Career change and pivots: take the first job that comes, or back yourself?
    • Consistency over end goals, and what the gym teaches us about patience
    • Radical acceptance and the goals that sit outside your control
    • High achievers, instant gratification and the daily streak trap
    • Waiting well: preparing for the opportunity while still living your life

  • EP 56 - Fall with grace: mistakes at work

Mistakes at work, perfectionism and why Black women get less grace when things go wrong. I

t's Chantelle and Natalie on the Black Women Working podcast.

Nobody is perfect, but plenty of workplaces act like we should be. This time we get into who gets to make mistakes, who gets to bounce back, and what it does to us when we're hyper visible, the only one in the room, or carrying the weight of representing everyone who looks like us. We also talk about what leaders can do to make speaking up safe, and what we can do to protect ourselves.

    In this episode:

    • Why being the only Black woman in the room can mean over-surveillance, and how confirmation bias makes mistakes look bigger
    • How the glass cliff and the pressure to represent make every slip feel higher stakes
    • Why documenting conversations and keeping receipts protects you
    • Consultation from the top down, communication from the bottom up: making it safe to speak up
    • How tiredness, capacity and poor resourcing cause mistakes, and why quality beats output
    • Redefining failure and getting the conditions right to do your best work

After nearly two years away, Black Women Working is back.

It's Chantelle and Natalie, and we're catching you up on where we've been. A year of forced rest after surgery and injury, a return to work that came too soon, and a resignation that was a long time coming.

    In this episode:

    • Why rest is a leadership skill
    • Work vs employment, and why your job doesn't get to define your worth
    • Pivoting at 40 vs pivoting at 30

  • EP51 - Saying No
Can burnout be more than just a personal struggle, and instead be a systemic issue impacting certain groups disproportionately? Journey with us as we tackle the complex issue of burnout, especially how it uniquely affects Black women in the workplace. Diving into research from Future Forum and Deloitte, revealing how young workers and women are often the hardest hit by economic strains and workplace demands. The conversation emphasizes the importance of addressing burnout at its roots rather than quick fixes like changing jobs, while also offering practical advice on maintaining balance and the empowering act of saying no.

  • Let's Talk About It - Can Black Women win? - Kamala and Kemi
What a week in politics for Black Women. Regardless of your political persuasion, black women had a lot to contend with Kemi Badenoch became the first black leader of a political party in the UK and in the US Kamala Harris lost the presidential elections to Donald Trump. The experience both here in the UK and across the seas really have to make us pause and buckle our bootstraps as we continue on our journey to be recognised and accomplished in our greatness, all against the backdrop of white patriarchy. Tune in and keep the conversation going.ConnectEmail: [email protected] and Instagram: @bwwpodcastuk, #bwwpodcastukWebsite: www.blackwomenworking.comHostsChantelle- @mscocolondonNatalie- @mscarter_13

  • EP49 - Sis Listen! - Joy Kyei
We've interviewed the HR 'Queens of Babylon' back in 2020 and now we sit down to chop it up with ex-police officer, now DEI consultant Joy Kyei. This episode needed to be at least three! Joy talks us through her motivations to join the force and what it has meant to her to back a difference to the black community at work and beyond. As if that isn't a task in itself, we also discuss working through divorce, being a single mum, finding purpose and pivoting into a new career. Sis, Listen! We have covered some ground this episode, it's one not to miss.
