Dr. Robert Gregory discusses his Dynamic Deconstructive Psychotherapy (DDP) and Psychiatry High Risk Program, an evidence based alternative to dialectical behaviour therapy for people with borderline personality disorder. 

He also shares his insights on a concept of "embedded badness", the neuroscience behind BPD, and the impacts of academia on promising new treatment options. 

Dr. Robert Gregory is a Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He is the developer of an evidence-based treatment for borderline personality disorder called Dynamic Deconstructive Psychotherapy and is the founder of the Psychiatry High Risk Program, a recovery-based suicide prevention program for adolescents and young adults that uses Dynamic Deconstructive Psychotherapy as its core treatment.

Carly (@jesuscoffeeandprozac) is a married mom of two who works as a substance use prevention counselor with middle school students. Though she has struggled with her mental health for almost 20 years, she was formally diagnosed with BPD in January 2024. She is now in a specialized treatment program that utilizes dynamic reconstructive psychotherapy (DDP) to treat people at high risk for suicide. In this episode, Carly talks about her understanding of DDP, how it differs from DBT, and how it’s working so far.

Kali (kmpoetry14) hosts poetry workshops for people with BPD through Emotions Matter. She shares about her own lived experience, the moment she realized she had the ability to change, finding and redefining love, and the impact poetry has had on her recovery. 

Kali earned her MFA in 2010 from Lesley University. She has been published in Gaslight
Magazine, Boston Literary Magazine, Balancing the Tides, The Novice Writer, Tupelo Press 30/30 Project, Connotations Press and most recently became one of the winners of Newport Life Writing Contest.  She works full-time for a family business and is committed to her volunteer work with Emotions Matter to help others on the journey. She is "loud and proud" about her BPD diagnosis and Laurie loved chatting with her!
