The majority of us have developed cancer for no obvious reason. We didn't have a family history.  We didn't have a genetic mutation.  A lot of us claim that we were in "the best shape of our lives" when we heard the words, "you have cancer." In today's Podcast, Dr. Nagourney shares with us how cancer uses various pathways to infiltrate and proliferate in our bodies.  However, not every pathway is broken. Cancer is devious and can use normal pathways in abnormal ways. In his research, Dr. Nagourney has pioneered personalized medicine based not on genomics, but instead, on cell biology.

Grace is one of the most lovely and articulate ladies we've met on our podcast. She was doing grassroots work in Nigeria when she unexpectedly fainted. After returning to New York and meeting with multiple doctors, she was told that she had breast cancer.But how could this be? She didn't have any of the "usual" symptoms.

Breast Cancer Meets Covid-19 by SurvivingBreastCancer.org

Summary: In this episode, Laura discusses the results of the breast cancer meets Covid-19 survey that was previously sent out to the SBC community. The results revealed that people in the SBC community would like more communication from their doctors. In addition, many of the guidelines for Covid-19 are similar to what individuals going through a breast cancer diagnosis must abide by. As a result, there is a sense of uncertainty as to how to approach certain situations during this time and how to still be able to go through breast cancer treatment when individuals are not able to go to the hospital as often. Laura encourages people to talk to their doctors and to engage in coping strategies in order to feel better during this difficult time.

A breast cancer diagnosis can feel lonely at times. It's natural for us to want to connect with others who are experiencing something similar, whether that is losing your hair from chemo, deciding on what type of surgery is best for you, or navigating the path of (in)fertility. In today's episode we speak with April Stearns, Founder and Editor-In-Chief of Wildfire Magazine. A magazine created with young women diagnosed with breast cancer in mind. April shares her personal story after being diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer at the age of 35. Her daughter was three years old. April speaks to the delicate topics of childbearing, genetic testing, breast feeding, and her decision to have a single mastectomy and forego reconstruction. While breast cancer is a heavy topic, April brings hope and joy to the conversation. Veronica shares her tips and advice of what it was like for her leading up to her single mastectomy. We've never gone through this before, how do we prepare? What is that day like when they ask us to come in really early in the morning for prep prior to the surgery. Veronica shares her experience so that it can help calm the nerves of others. Veronica was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer. She is a single woman and carries the fortitude to navigate her breast cancer journey. From taking herself to and from appointments and recovering from a single mastectomy, she reminds us that we have the strength to do this! Like so many of us, our families are spread out. When you find out you have a breast cancer diagnosis, you are flooded with questions and emotions. Veronica shares her advice about what she wishes she had known leading up to the day of surgery.

In our third part of In Memory of Kerensa, Glenn, her husband, takes us on the path of what it is like living with stage IV breast cancer. Kerensa's breast cancer had recurred. It had spread to her bones and was in her pelvis and spin. Over the course of a year it had taken over most of her body. This episode sheds light on the realities of a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis. All stages of breast cancer are treatable and while there is still no cure, doctors, medical professionals and scientists are working diligently to one day say there is an end to breast cancer.
