Salk is joined by ESPN Seahawks beat reporter Brady henderson to discuss the notable roster cuts that were made by the Seahawks, including preseason standout Jamie Sheriff. They then dive into what the Seahawks expectations are for 2024, and if they will be better, worse or right at where people expect them to be. Brock joins the show for Blue 88, with topics including Pete Carroll, any notable NFL roster cuts for the Seahawks to look at and UW players to watch for early on.
With the Mariners offense back to looking lost at the plate, Salk opens up the hour talking about how we've seen that version of the Mariners far too many times this season between the lack of runs and all of the strikeouts. Later, they re-air their conversation with Jeff Passan in which he talks further about Scott Servais, Dan Wilson and the Mariners playoff chances with a month to go in the season.
We talk confidence and how much it plays into a team's outlook. How much confidence can it give this Seahawks team that they come in with a new scheme on both sides of the ball after years of not quite having the answers to problems? Then, inspired by Mike Sando's Qb tiers column, Brock ranks his top 5 current NFL QB's.
Brock and Salk continue the conversation on Warren Sharp analyzing why he believes that it is ridiculous to have Geno Smith ranked as the league's 20th best quarterback and the numbers that he uses to back it up. They then welcome on ESPN's Jeff Passan to discuss further on the Scott Servais/Dan Wilson saga, Julio Rodriguez's swing percentage, and the outlook of the Mariners for the final month of the season.
The Mariners have an insane record when they score 4+ runs in a game this season. Brock and Salk discuss that at some length. Brock also has another Madden code to give away, so two callers play some trivia in hopes of prevailing for the code. In Blue 88, Brocks takes a look at both Manti Teo's view on the Seahawks, Warren Sharp's analysis on Geno Smith and which Seahawks veteran has left us with more questions than answers in the preseason.
The Mariners won again last night, taking down the Rays. And they did so by playing a competent game at the plate. Salk says doing just that is all that they need to do during the final month. They then re-air their interview with Dan Wilson in which he shares his vision as a manager, why he wanted the job and much more.
After our conversation with Dan Wilson, Brock thinks Dan Wilson's likeability and people skills are a big part of why he was brought in. Then, we discuss how one of the most important things for anyone taking over the manager role for the M's is their relationship with Julio. Can Dan Wilson unlock him? Can he get this offense to show some consistency?
What did everyone think of the Mariners performance over the weekend in their series win against the Giants? Brock and Salk share their takeaways. They then welcome on new Mariners manager Dan Wilson to get his insight on what motivated him to be a manager, what type of manager he wants to be, how to unlock Julio Rodriguez and plenty more.
What is the true reason that Scott Servais was let go by the Mariners? Salk shares his take on it as he and Brock open up hour two. They then look at the Seahawks Takeaways from the final preseason game against the Browns, including Ryan Grubb, the running game and much more. In Blue 88, Brock dives in on the Seahawks defense being underrated, what Cleveland did different offensively on Saturday and the biggest UW Football storylines heading into their first game on Saturday.
The Mariners took two out of three games from the Giants over the weekend. Question is, did it really feel different? Salk gives his thoughts on that. Later, Maura takes everyone Around The Weekend with Mariners news, NFL preseason highlights and a Little League World Series walkoff in the championship game.
