In this episode, queer astrologer Colin Bedell and I problematize outdated gay stereotypes, such as masc4masc and Grindr Tribes through a critical lens, tieing this to the subject of homonormativity. We talk about the origins of homonormativity in heterosexual patriarchal systems, how queer men can work towards dismantling patriarchy, and the importance of healing our relationships with straight men. We also discuss ways of overcoming judgment within the LGBTQIA+ community, whether Grindr tribes help or limit our sexual experiences, and Colin also shares astrological updates related to these topics.

Can't Host is a gay men’s sex and relationships podcast aiming to challenge toxic gay stereotypes, and explore the complex dynamics of gay relationships, with the aim of creating opportunities for healing and growth. We'll discuss whether size matters, question the top/bottom binary, talk about healing sexual trauma, how to overcome dick- and body-shame, falling out of love with someone, homonormativity, and more. If you're a gay guy who's frustrated with the rigid rules of the gay community, seeking more joy and authenticity in your sex life and relationships, you're in the right place!

    About Sergio

Sergio Zapata, label-less, but if there was a description of him it would be an alchemist, a person who transforms or creates something through a seemingly magical process. Growing up in an evangelical Christian household, bound to scriptures and dogmas of a strict patriarchy he broke through it all to create a life of his own where he could deconstruct his faith and develop self acceptance not just as a gay man, but a human.

In search of truth and clarity he continued his education in the field of architecture in NYC where he found a home and a way of life for him to thrive and develop a sense of self. Now an architect transforming living spaces as his formal career, he also dedicates his time in the study of mysticism, religion, shamanism, self development and wisdom seeking. Living in a world so concrete and earthly as architecture, but also dwelling in esoteric practices as spirituality he finds the duality of both worlds to balance and compliment each other, creating a harmonious life.

He is an alchemist continuing to transform his own life through a seemingly magical process, and helping others to find that magic of their own by shining his own light unapologetically.

Are you a top, bottom, vers, vers bottom, vers top, power bottom, dom top...? The list goes on! In this episode, I'm joined by Sergio Zapata in a conversation about how these gay sexual position preferences are empowering or limiting our sex life. Kicking the episode off with a candid sex story of how I negotiated these labels within me, we chat about whether being a top or bottom is something we're born with or not, we explore the interplay between these positions and masculine/feminine energies and share ways of exploring our sexuality beyond these labels.

In this episode, I share my journey of coming out of the closet. Growing up in a small, homophobic, and Christian community, my childhood was marked by bullying, judgement, and self-loathing. Conditioned to pleople-please and change for others' love and acceptance, I couldn't accept my gayness. Instead, I was led down a traumatic path of rejecting and trying to "cure" my gayness, which almost cost me my life.
