Yes it is important to read research papers. However, they are not gospel. They are one of the mediums strength and conditioning (S&C) coaches need to consume.

S&C coaches also need to consume textbooks, books, podcasts, webinars, etc...In this video you will watch me interview Dr. Trevor Short about his 2025 paper "Implementing the Reverse Acute to Chronic Workload Ratio Model to Improve Movement Capacity and Roster Availability: An Example Using Data from the NFL."

This paper was published in 2025 but was based on 2015 data set. In the article Dr. Short talks about Acute to Chronic Workload Ratio (ACWR) and how it can help coaches plan their workload. However, the ACWR that Dr. Short talks about comes from Tim Gabbett and Tim's work was shown to be refuted/redacted due to inaccuracies.

What happened at Tufts with the lacrosse team is unfortunate. Here is hoping this will be the last time we see military style training for athletes.

Athletes are not military operators. Athletes do not need to go through the same process of selection that Navy SEALS go through. Remember, SEAL hell week is not designed to develop SEALS, it is to weed out those who can't make it. No athletic team cuts kids that can't finish these training sessions.
