In this bonus episode we speak with Dr. Jason Avedesian, Ph.D of Clemson Athletics about how the brain plays a critical roll in the health of the ACL.
This is due to the vestibular system (eyes) and their ability to process information from the outside world and process the information before making a decision.
It is key to understand that we S&C coaches cannot prevent ACL injuries, we can only reduce the likelihood of injury, and decrease the potential severity of injury.
This week's episode is live! In our episode this week we talk with Jason Avedesian, Ph.D. Dr. Avedesian has worked in Clemson Athletics in November 2021 as the Director of Sports Science for Olympic Sports. Within this role, Avedesian oversees all sports science initiatives across Clemson Olympic sports, including research and design, athlete monitoring, data analytics, and technology implementation. He also oversees the Clemson Olympic sports science internship program, consisting of a semester-long sports science curriculum. In our conversation we dive deep into ACL injuries and talk about how they occur in sport.

Quantitative cutting assessment Dos'Santos T, McBurnie A, Donelon T, Thomas C, Comfort P, Jones PA. A qualitative screening tool to identify athletes with 'high-risk' movement mechanics during cutting: The cutting movement assessment score (CMAS). Connecting with athletes is hard. It is also extremely rewarding. In this week's episode we speak with Dr. Scott Goldman about an assessment tool called the AIQ. Dr. Goldman created this tool to help coaches learn how their athletes learn.
In doing so, coaches can connect with and educate their athletes at a higher level.I took the assessment myself and it takes roughly 20-30 minutes to complete on an iPad. It was better than a standard multiple choice exam and had some fun parts. All in all if a team has the budget for it adding this tool can possibly help.

Adam Meakins is a physiotherapist who has been working in the field for 20 years. He explains how he discovered the profession after leaving the military and pursuing a career in sports science.
He believes that physiotherapy can be overly arrogant and should not receive the same credit as other health care professions. In the podcast episode, Adam emphasizes the importance of listening to patients and providing reassurance as the number one thing healthcare professionals can do to help with pain and movement.

Are you like everyone else and worried about artificial intelligence? If you are we can't help you there.
We can put your mind at ease that it WILL NOT replace humans as coaches. Not any time soon at least.
It is fake intelligence for a reason. It cannot critically think. In this episode we asked ChatGPT to program for a powerlifter over a 12 week time.
AI was able to give us something for a program. But it missed out on way more than it programmed.
