Welcome to episode 138 of The Marriage Life Coach Podcast!
Marriage MBA graduate Alexis Adams joins me to talk about how she learned to decide for herself what she wants her relationship to be about, and all the different ways this empowers her in her partnership.
In addition to being a school psychologist, Alexis is a life coach for perfectionists and people pleasers, and shares the things she learned in my program that helped her have even more ownership over her own perfectionism and people-pleasing (yay!).
After being in a long-term relationship for 8 years, Alexis joined The Marriage MBA to see if she could continue to be with her boyfriend without being married.
She felt a lot of shame around being unmarried and struggled deeply to find the good in her relationship.
One of the most important parts of The Marriage MBA is how we explore the cultural narratives we listen to that create unnecessary stress and suffering in our lives.
The first time Alexis stepped in for coaching in the group, she felt anxious and frustrated because of the things she believed being unmarried meant for her and her relationship.
Listen to her story today as she explains how she used the tools from the Marriage MBA to change the way she was thinking about her relationship and work through those intense emotions so she could enjoy her relationship, no matter what label it has.
Tune in to hear more about:
Alexis' favorite tool from The Marriage MBA and why it "blew her mind open"
The power of the question, "What if this is not a problem?"
How getting coached helps you learn how to coach yourself even more powerfully
What a stress cycle is and how it affects communication in relationships
