Clarity on Fire episodes

  • We're going on hiatus again (& other big changes)!

Yep, you read that subject line right — starting today, we're taking another hiatus from the podcast. 😲

We've been podcasting for 5 years now, with only one significant break (late last year) during that entire run! Honestly, we're impressed with our stamina.

There's a lot that went into our decision to take another hiatus — it's about soooo much more than just podcasting.

So, listen in as we get into:

    • A magical series of events that led Rachel down a new and interesting path
    • Our very honest feelings about what we want Clarity on Fire to be: A serious business or a fun hobby?
    • Why all the conversations we've had on the podcast about masculine vs. feminine energy persuaded us to make some big changes
    • And, of course, when we expect to return!

We'll still be posting on Instagram occasionally while we're away, so follow us there if you haven't yet!

    ONE MORE BIG THING

Even though we won't be podcasting for a while, we will still be coaching!

But, as you'll hear in the episode, we may or may not (we just don't know yet!) be back with another official coaching enrollment later this year.

So, if you're feeling the urge to work with us, you don't wait for us to give you a nudge!

Feel free to fill out the form on this page at any time, and we'll schedule an intro chat to talk about the possibility of coaching.

And if you want to try out a little coaching before making a big commitment, then grab yourself a Power Hour! It's a 75-minute coaching session where we'll laser-focus on whatever issue is keeping you most stuck. Bonus, you can apply the cost of your Power Hour toward future 1:1 coaching!

  • From totally shut down to feeling your feelings again with Amanda Johnson

For most of her life, Amanda Johnson excelled at being "the good girl."

She was a stellar student who knew how to play by the rules, whether that was in school, at church, or with friends or family.

She implicitly understood what was acceptable, and what wasn't, so she followed the prescription for a successful life: Go to college, major in something respectable and useful, get a good job, get married, have 2 children, get an MBA, move up the career ladder.

Until one day, almost like coming out of a coma, she said she "woke up in the middle of a life." She'd built an entire life, and wasn't sure how she'd done it, or whether she'd truly chosen any of it consciously.

And then the real work began.

Listen in as Amanda and Rachel get into…

    • What it means to be living a "good girl" kind of life, and what happened when Amanda decided to be "bad," instead
    • How she started to access her true feelings and opinions again, after a live lived mostly on autopilot
    • Amanda's 180-degree career pivot, and how she exited the corporate world
    • The incredible gifts she quickly developed once she was free to be herself, and how she's using them to help herself and others

Come leave a comment after you've listened to share how Amanda's journey resonated with you!

    MORE ABOUT AMANDA

Amanda Johnson is your typical high-energy, over-achieving, perfectionist, people pleaser type who, by all accounts, looked great on paper, but wasn't feeling a whole lot of anything for a long time. After years of building a successful career in the marketing world, Amanda had a wake up call in the form of a full blown spiritual awakening and started questioning pretty much every facet of her life. After coaching with Rachel, and working for the past several years toward calling in more authenticity and alignment, Amanda's gifts came online in a big way.

Recently, Amanda made some serious changes to her life, including pivoting away from her corporate life to launch Heartspark, an intuitively based energy work and life purpose coaching business. Amanda is trained in reiki, completed iPEC's coach training program and loves questioning the mysteries of the universe. When Amanda isn't working with clients or chasing her two little boys around, she loves to spend hours talking to her friends and family about signs, dreams and hopeless romantic things, traveling to far off places, reading 1,000 books all at the same time and dipping her toes in the ocean as much as possible (preferably in San Diego!) She's all about living her life with an open heart, and hopes she can inspire you to do the same.

You can find her at heartsparksoul.com and @heartsparksoul on Instagram.

And just for Clarity on Fire listeners, Amanda is offering the first 10 people who book a classic Heartspark Session 20% off (through the end of June, or until all spots are taken, whichever comes first) with code KRACHEL.

  • Dear Krachel: I quit my job and have huge regrets! I can't go back, so now what?

Welcome to another episode of Dear Krachel, our monthly advice segment where we answer listener questions about life, career, relationships, existential angst, and anything that helps you become a more whole, fulfilled version of yourself.

This month we answered questions from:

    • Carley, who's tried several jobs that promise the Thriver lifestyle, but don't fulfill her or allow her to work on her terms. How can she tell if she's turning into a trailblazer who could manage self-employment, or if she's just surpassed her tolerance to work for "self-absorbed nincompoomps?!"

    • Courntey, who recently took a huge risk by leaving her (very well paid) job for a new opportunity, but now she's 3 months in and has huge regrets. She absolutely cannot go back, so how can she stay focused on her new path despite the fact that she can't stop thinking about her old job?

    • Eva, whose major ambition is to have a job where she can finish what's expected of her in a couple hours, then have plenty of time left for a life of leisure. Except she keeps self-sabotaging her dreams of ease by poking into new issues, volunteering herself for other people's projects, and generally staying busy when that's the last thing she actually wants! Why does she keep doing this to herself and how can she put a stop to it?

Come leave a comment after you've listened to share how our advice for these listeners resonated with you!

  • Side Chat: How attachment theory plays out at work

Back in March we hit you with a major episode about our new favorite book, Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy.

On the surface, the book is about parenting. But as we were reading, we couldn't help but notice just how much what we were learning applied to WORK, too.

So, in this brand-new Side Chat we sat down to talk about one pattern, in particular – something that's probably affecting every single person who will hear this episode:

How your childhood wounds, blueprints, and unhealthy patterns play out in your career in adulthood.

Listen in as we chat about…

    • A refresher on what Attachment Theory is, and why it's super relevant to your career
    • The patterns and connections that most people are missing between childhood history and present-day career issues
    • MANY examples of how our clients have seen their unhealthy patterns play out at work, and how we helped them heal, up-level, and move on

Come leave a comment after you've listened to share how this one resonated with you!

APPLY TO WORK WITH US 1:1!

If this episode hits a little too close to home – maybe you're starting to suspect that there's a lot more to your career confusion and dissatisfaction than meets the eye – then we've got good news for you:

We're CURRENTLY accepting applications for new coaching clients!

We officially open doors for new clients just a few times per year, so if now feels like the right time, let's talk.

    • We have space for maybe 10 clients this time, and some of those spots are already gone!

    • This is for people interested in getting started in May or June.

    • We've temporarily brought back the option of doing 3 months of coaching, rather than the traditional 6!

    • You don't have to know for sure that you want to move ahead with coaching. You just have to be serious enough about it to want to have a conversation.

  • A minor pivot into a major dream life with normal person V.

A couple of years ago, my client (who we're very mysteriously dubbing) "V" felt quite literally trapped.

The pandemic was still raging and she was working for a company whose workload and hours were so demanding that the only time she went outside every day was for her dog. Otherwise, it was a wake up/work/eat sometimes/work until midnight or later/repeat kind of situation.

She dreamed of a life somewhere abroad – maybe in Europe or Latin America – where she could wake up slowly, meditate for 30 minutes, make a leisurely breakfast, and maybe even take a walk! Where she could take her time on her work, rather than juggling too many projects at once and being hounded by constant meetings.

Maybe after work she'd go to dinner with friends, go take a ceramics class, or have time to date some beautiful men!

It sounds like something out of a movie, and it did to V, too … back then. Except now, V lives in Spain and that daydream is her life. She made it happen in less than a year! And it wasn't nearly as hard as you'd think.

Listen in as we chat about …

    • Why V thought she needed to leave her industry entirely to start a new life
    • How the shifts she needed to make were actually a LOT smaller than she expected
    • How she overcame a lot of false assumptions and interpretations that had been keeping her stuck
    • What her new life in Spain looks like

Come leave a comment after you've listened to share how V's journey resonated with you!

APPLY TO WORK WITH US 1:1!

There comes a point where you're ready to stop hoping things will change and start knowing they will. You're probably very clear about what you don't want out of your life and career, but know you need to dive a whole lot deeper into what you do want.

You might be a little nervous about the prospect of massive change … but at this point in your life, you deeply understand that the only real risk is not changing. If you want individual attention, someone to hold you accountable, and the benefit of our substantial experience focused solely on you, then we've got good news:

We're CURRENTLY accepting applications for new coaching clients!

We officially open doors for new clients just a few times per year, so if now feels like the right time, let's talk.

  • Dear Krachel: How can I tell if I'm in deep denial?

Welcome to another episode of Dear Krachel, our monthly advice segment where we answer listener questions about life, career, relationships, existential angst, and anything that helps you become a more whole, fulfilled version of yourself.

This month we answered questions from:

    • Supportive but Struggling, who's been struggling with her mental health while watching close friends move on to new phases of life. How can she be a good friend and support their milestones without bringing more loneliness and sadness on herself?

    • Priya, a self-admitted over-thinker who's worried that she might be in denial about why she re-downloaded dating apps. Is there an uncomfortable truth she's refusing to see? And how do we even begin to untangle the difference between fearful thoughts and our intuition?

We also got a very interesting update from Ready to Rebel, who wrote to us back in June of 2022 to ask if it was possible to have both freedom and stability in our careers! 👀

  • Make big changes without force or willpower with Amy Johnson, Ph.D.

If there's one thing literally everyone has in common, it's the desire for something in your life (maybe many things) to be different.

Humans aren't satisfied (cue Hamilton: I will never be satisfied!! 🎶) by nature. As much as we might resist change, we also deeply crave it.

But we're also not great at making change! We have a lot of assumptions about how to do it, most of which don't actually work.

So, in this month's brand-new interview with an expert, Rachel sits down with Amy Johnson, Ph.D., to talk about how to make big change without having to force anything or exert a ton of willpower.

Listen in as they got into …

    • How Amy broke free of a lifetime of anxiety and an 8-year struggle with an eating disorder, using an approach that's simple but very powerful
    • Why it's not necessary (or helpful) to rely on our mind/thoughts when trying to change, and what to lean on instead
    • Amy's take on things like intrusive thoughts, beating yourself up, and wishing things could be different than they are
    • And a LOT more!

This was a really interesting and profound conversation. We can't wait for you to hear it!

    MORE ABOUT AMY JOHNSON, PH.D.

Amy Johnson, Ph.D. is a psychologist, coach, author, and speaker who shares a groundbreaking new approach that helps people find lasting freedom from unwanted habits, anxiety, and self-doubt via insight rather than willpower. She is the author of Being Human; The Little Book of Big Change: The No-Willpower Approach to Breaking Any Habit; and Just a Thought: A No-Willpower Approach to End Self-Doubt and Make Peace with Your Mind. In 2017 she opened The Little School of Big Change, an online school that has helped thousands of people find freedom from anxiety and habits and live a more peaceful life. Amy also shares the no-willpower approach in her top-rated podcast, Changeable, and she's trained over 70 coaches in her Change Coach Training Program. She has been a regularly featured expert on The Steve Harvey Show and Oprah.com, as well as in The Wall Street Journal and Self magazine.

  • Side Chat: The top questions to ask yourself when job searching, according to Passion Profile

A few weeks ago I was on a call with one of my current clients, Danielle, who's actively looking for new jobs so that she can finally get out of a job that's been draining her for a long time.

Like a lot of people in her situation, Danielle is a little worried that she's going to lose sight of what matters – that she'll be perusing job postings and get confused about what makes sense for her and what doesn't, or that she'll end up in an interview and get dazzled by talk, but won't recognize a truly bad fit.

So, to help her stay calm, confident, and focused on what she wants – a job that's going to be a great fit for her Passion Profile, which is Thriver – we came up with a few filter questions she can ask herself as she considers any new possibility.

It was so helpful for her that I decided everyone could use a list like hers … so, that's what Kristen and I came up with!

In this month's brand-new Side Chat, we share the top 3 questions you should ask yourself, according to your Passion Profile, when looking for a new job (or even when you're hoping to improve the job you already have).

Here's a sneak peek of a few of the questions we came up with:

    • How bought into the mission of this company/role do I feel?
    • How much of an impact will this job allow me to have?
    • What is going to support my ideal lifestyle?
    • How open is the work culture to new ideas?

Listen in to the episode to find out which Profile the questions above are paired with, and to hear the full list of filter questions!

  • Choose your own adventure with Austin Rose

Just a couple years ago, Austin was working in a job that he always thought he wanted, but turned out to be all wrong for him. Even though he'd been preparing for this job for years, he trusted his gut and ultimately quit.

Since then, Austin's life has been like a choose-your-own-adventure novel: he's lived in a Buddhist monastery, worked as a ranch-hand with cowboys in South Dakota, dug up dinosaur bones in Montana, taken care of stray dogs in Costa Rica, property-sat a retreat center in Wyoming, lived on a farm in Ireland… and that's just a few of his many adventures!

As you might imagine, he's learned a ton about himself through all of these experiences, and they've helped him redefine what an ideal job means for him.

And if you're thinking, "Wow, that sounds so cool! But there's no way I could do that…," Austin will be the first to tell you that his lifestyle is far more accessible than you ever thought possible.

    • The intense self-discovery he's gone through as a result of his many adventures
    • Specifics about HOW he's been able to live such an unconventional lifestyle, and his tips for anyone who's craving an adventure of their own

    MORE ABOUT AUSTIN ROSE

Austin is a twenty-eight-year-old who worked for three years as a police officer before finally being able to accept that it wasn't the right fit, at which point he took the leap and walked away from the stable career he had spent years preparing for. He resigned in September of 2021, and since then has been using a variety of methods to travel the world, connect with new people, dabble in new work, and adventure. Since quitting, Austin has lived in a Buddhist monastery, worked as a ranch-hand with cowboys in South Dakota, dug up dinosaur bones in Montana, taken care of stray dogs in Costa Rica, property-sat a retreat center in Wyoming, lived on a farm in Ireland, and more. To this day, he continues to explore the world and try on new hats, and he's here to tell you that you can do it too.

About Clarity on Fire

From the publisher's feed

Clarity on Fire is a podcast for people who know what they DON'T want out of their life and career, but aren't sure what they'd RATHER be doing. We're Kristen and Rachel, two best friends from college and certified life coaches who are here to help you cut through the information overload, get unstuck, and focus not JUST on how you can have a career you're passionate about, but how to create a whole LIFE that feels fulfilling.
