  • Rachel Garahan Talks 9 Months of Wonder, Pregnancy Journaling, and the Journey to Motherhood

Today, we welcome Rachel Garahan to the show. Rachel is a creative director, artist, and innate nurturer. In all of her work, she is drawn to what she calls the "elemental connection": the space where nature and the human spirit overlap. She is also the author of a new pregnancy journal, 9 Months of Wonder. With a spare, modern design and gorgeous illustration, 9 Months of Wonder is designed to help mothers-to-be to document the liminal space between here and there while softening into the season they're in. In these journal pages, she will find a safe place to record and process her experiences, reflect on the ups and downs, move through fears, and honor the metamorphosis taking place in her as she gives birth to the new life of her child and the new parts of herself.

  • The Oral Microbiome and its Effects on Fertility and Overall Health with Dr. Katie Lee, DDS

Dr. Katie Lee is a dentist, speaker, author, and coach who lives in Aurora, Colorado. Dr. Lee graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago in 2010 and was an owner-partner in over 80 DSO supported dental practices throughout the US and served as Clinical Partner overseeing 5 states. Currently, she consults for health technology companies, provides implant education for general dentists, and is seeing patients through telehealth. Dr. Lee has two passions in her profession: dentistry itself and making other dentists successful. Her passion about the oral systemic health link comes from personal experience. Dr. Lee was involved in an ATV accident as a teenager, which left her without many teeth and rendered her jaw immobile.

On today’s episode, Dr. Lee shares her remarkable story from patient to doctor and breaks down the importance of keeping a healthy and balanced oral microbiome. Check out her recent book release: ‘Saved By The Mouth: Be Healthier, Save Money, and Live Longer by Improving Your Oral Health.’ We learned a lot in the conversation and hope it helps enlighten our audience about the importance of oral health for overall health.

  • Dr. Cate Shanahan Breaks Down the Dark Truth About Seed Oils

Today we have a fascinating conversation with Dr. Cate Shanahan, author of the new book DARK CALORIES: How Vegetable Oils Destroy Our Health and How We Get It Back, released on June 11th.   DARK CALORIES explains how a group of eight little-known oils cause the cellular damage that underlies virtually all chronic disease, exposes the corruption that deceives doctors and consumers into eating them, and gives us a clear roadmap to recovery and rejuvenation. In this episode we learn about the science behind WHY vegetable oils can compromise our health, and the latest research from top experts in the field, what seed oils  are, and how they do damage. We also discuss how to get vegetable oils out of our diet, the history of the science that misled doctors and consumers into buying these oils, and much more.

Dr. Cate is a board-certified Family Physician and Cornell-trained biochemist. She is the author of 4 books including the New York Times bestseller Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food. Her books have taught a generation of ancestral health influencers and nutrition-oriented MDs about the benefits of bone broth, organ meats, fermented foods, and the damaging effects of a collection of 8 common seed oils (The Hateful 8) that are the single worst ingredient in the food supply.  She cocreated the PRO Nutrition program for the LA Lakers and runs a telehealth practice and health education website.

  • Elaine Lin Hering Discusses Unlearning Silence and How Silence Effects Our Bodies, Our Workplaces and Our Society

Today we welcome Elaine Lin Hering to the podcast. In her new book, UNLEARNING SILENCE: How to Speak Your Mind, Unleash Talent, and Live More Fully,  Elaine takes our culture of silence to task. Each of us has a unique gift to offer our community: our voice. But despite our distinct and valuable perspectives, many of us choose to stay silent. Family norms, workplace hierarchies, and biased cultures can make us think twice about expressing ourselves, sharing new ideas, and even speaking out when we know something is wrong.  Elaine Lin Hering has worked with mental health professionals, political officials, religious communities, and leaders at companies including American Express, Google, Nike, Pixar, and the Red Cross to build skills in communication, collaboration, and conflict management. In her work, she’s seen the pervasive influence of silence in many forms. Elaine has developed strategies to recognize and unlearn unconscious patterns so we can make intentional choices about how we want to show up at home and at work.
