Emotional Childhood Neglect (ECN) is a silent form of trauma. It’s not necessarily about what was done to you, but what wasn’t done. Unlike abuse, which is an act of commission, neglect is an act of omission—the emotional support, attunement, and validation that were missing. It’s often invisible, especially in families that appeared functional from the outside: no major trauma, no chaos, no outright abuse. Just... emotional absence.
