Dr. Linda Uyeda shares how she is working to make the health care system a more caring and compassionate place. She has been doing amazing work around British Columbia to educate health care providers about adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), attachment theory, and the importance of including people with lived experience! Her and Laurie have worked together for years to share both the provider and patient side of what accessing mental health care does and should look like.
This week's guest is Dr. Linda Uyeda who obtained her medical degree and completed her family practice residency training at the University of British Columbia. She works at a Psychiatric Hospital in British Columbia, Canada. Her personal journey into the science of true healing began after her medical studies were over. 18 years ago, with the birth of her first child, she became interested in human development. Like many new parents, she felt confused about advice she was receiving from family and friends and turned to the scientific community for answers. She expanded her medical education to explore neuroscience, parenting, trauma, and attachment and was fascinated by what she found. An unexpected incident at work in 2015 combined with a family illness over the next several years, drove home the fact that nurturing resilience and compassion are key to wellbeing. After incorporating this information into her own parenting approach and her medical practice with great success, she has begun educating others about what she has learned.
This episode featured Laurie Edmundson who previously was a co-host of this project. You can find her at https://www.laurieedmundson.com and on IG @laurieanned where you will find ways to access The Super Feelers Club and other projects she works on.
