What the US Supreme Court Did - and Did Not - Say About DACA (0:30)
Guest: Michael Olivas, Wm B. Bates Distinguished Chair in Law (Retired), University of Houston Law Center, Author of “Perchance to Dream: A Legal and Political History of the DREAM Act and DACA”
Some 700,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children, can continue to study and work without fear of deportation – for now. That’s the upshot of the Supreme Court’s ruling last week – a defeat for the Trump Administration. But the “sword of Damocles is still hanging over” recipients of DACA – the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
The Palestinian Authority Plays a Game of Chicken (19:31)
Guest: Khaled Elgindy, Senior Fellow, Director of Program on Palestine and Palestinian-Israeli Affairs at the Middle East Institute, Author of “Blind Spot: America and the Palestinians, From Balfour to Trump”
Israel’s leaders appear to be moving ahead with a controversial plan to annex portions of the West Bank in the coming weeks. The Palestinians say the land is theirs, based on previous international agreements, and it's land they have counted on for an independent country they hope to establish. But Israel has the bigger army and the backing of President Trump. So the Palestinian Authority is hoping to stop the annexation by threatening to basically step aside and let Israel manage the West Bank on its own. It’s a game of chicken.
New Survey Identifies a Group of Women Swing Voters (39:00)
Guest: Lauren Leader Is the CEO of All in Together
A look now at a voting bloc that could prove key in the 2020 presidential election. “Guardian Women” is the name they’ve been given by the non-partisan research organization All In Together, which did a poll of American women in early May.
Wonder Woman as an Awkward Teenaged Refugee Confronting Injustice in America (52:49)
Guest: Laurie Halse Anderson, New York Times Best-Selling Author of “Speak” and “Chains,” Author of “Wonder Woman: Tempest Tossed”
Wonder Woman has become edgier and more empowered on screen over the years. The latest iteration of her story from DC Comics rolls the clock back to her teenage years –when she was just Diana Prince. She’s awkward, uprooted from home, living as a refugee in New York City. The new graphic novel is called “Wonder Woman: Tempest Tossed” and it’s written by Laurie Halse Anderson –the best-selling author of young adult novels including “Speak” and “Chains.”

Guest: Danny Chou, Professor of Biochemistry, University of Utah
Researchers at the University of Utah are currently developing a promising new type of insulin, one that will treat type 1 diabetes more quickly and effectively. The source of this new insulin? Cone snails.
Barriers to Science at the US/Mexico Border (1:30:13)
Guest: Myles Traphagen, Borderlands Program Coordinator at Wildlands Network
The US/Mexico border is a hot spot for geologists, biologists, archaeologists, and even social scientists to conduct research. But that work has become harder because of dangerous drug cartels and increasing militarization of the border. Myles Traphagen works for Wildlands Network in Tucson, Arizona where he coordinates their borderlands program. He co-authored some research recently surveying scientists about the challenges of doing work at the border.
