If you have not heard the name Dani Bates, after this episode, you will never be able to forget it. 

Dani Bates was widowed in 2019 after her husband, Denny, died by suicide. Dani and her two daughters have become mental health and suicide prevention advocates and use social media to share Denny’s story.

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and Dani’s story and perspective of the devastation and reality of what life is like for loved ones after suicide is a story everyone needs to hear. 

If you or anyone you know is having thoughts or feelings of suicide, help is all around you. You are loved, your life is of immeasurable worth, you are the only you we get in this world.

He then partnered with likeminded entrepreneurs to create a live event company that grew to bring in over $100M in annual revenue hosting global education for business owners. Shawn now manages key relationships for Tax Hive, where he is an investor alongside one of his biggest business inspirations, Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank. He is an Ignition Point podcast host, a contributing author in the book series with the same title, and most importantly, a girl dad.

To say that Shawn has become a quick friend and mentor to our boys is an understatement.  This might be one of the most “gray area” topics the guys have ever discussed because there isn’t one right answer that works for everyone. It’s safe to say that all of us have experienced “tough love” in our lifetime at one point or another. For some of us that “tough love” was expressed in a safe manner with true cause for concern in hopes of correction through love, but for many others it manifested as abuse and was used as a tactic of control or manipulation. Obviously we can all agree on which is the heathier version. But what are the parameters of “the healthier version”?

This is where our boys come in. By discussing their personal experiences on both the giving and receiving side of tough love throughout their lives, we get a real inside look at things we can all relate to but don’t always have the words or courage to open up about. 

To love someone does not mean you will always agree with them or never butt heads. It means that despite the bad days and hard decisions you want them to live the best versions of their lives possible.

4 years ago Tyson started Copper Johns Beard Company as a way to help men feel more confident in their outward appearance while helping them achieve a healthier beard. Now today that same company has transformed into an entire men’s grooming brand that is doing just that, but has also sparked the creation of Dad Bods & Beards, and the friendship between he and Logan 2 years ago that has given us what we are seeing today.

You never know what following a simple idea can lead you to. So take that chance. Make that phone call. Don’t be afraid to fail. The magic you are looking for is found in the things you are avoiding.
