Are you passionate about something? Chances are you can turn that passion into profits. It's not always easy, but it's definitely worth it. Elzie and Sharon discuss how to find your passion and turn it into a successful business. Sharon also provides some tips on how to get started and how you must not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk and experience firsthand how you want your audience to feel about your service or product.
Highlights:
02:35 For as long as I can remember, even as a child, I always had that entrepreneurial spirit but I didn’t know what it was.
04:02 I started thinking what is it that I can do or how I can take that and turn it into something that’s a little bit more satisfying where, I can be compensated for my time?
04:38 I’m thinking of how I can promote it, what can I do to keep it going and that’s when I thought of doing Masterminds.
07:57 In order to be able to help someone with their pain point, I have to first be able to understand that pain point and be in alignment with what that pain point is all about.
10:34 I look at everything as life lessons, as always something good that comes out even if it’s negative.

Businesses are nothing without the people who work for them and the customers they serve. Sales and marketing efforts hinge on relationships with customers, and businesses need employees to function. Elzie is joined by Stephen Bates and they discuss why people are the greatest asset in business and how you can better understand customers and employees in order to create a more successful company!
Highlights:
03:32 Understanding people is the key and understanding your job as the owner is to move people to push-pull them into their best.
04:28 There’s a bad connotation to the word “ego”. I’m not a great fan of the word but you could have a bit of ego, to say, “I can make this happen”. That’s what makes entrepreneurs work.
06:40 When I’m working with somebody, I just have a very simple model and I look at how valuable they are—each person.
09:19 Mentoring, coaching, and training. Those three are different things but if you want to grow your business, you need all three.
12:29 The moment you make a new decision, you can take your actions, you get a different result.

In this episode, SF shared that his parents are his role model for why he became a successful entrepreneur. He said that you must have the "I can do" attitude to be successful in this field. He learned that work ethic and service is about being humble and doing the best job. Going above and beyond will pay back huge dividends in the future.
His parents have instilled these qualities in him from a young age and have been a continual support system for him as he has grown his business. It is clear that Shawn attributes a large portion of his success to them. They are evidently proud of him and everything he has accomplished. From this episode, it is inspiring to see how one's upbringing can play such a pivotal role in future success.
Episode Highlight:
02:18 - Watching their work ethic, watching how they make things happen because I was fortunate to watch, both of my parents really built from the ground up.
04:51 - Couple of things one, you got to know what it is you`re looking for, you have to have a clear job description of the person that you`re looking for.
09:45 - Service is about being humble and doing the best job, going above and beyond and it will pay back huge dividends in the future.
15:40 - The “I can do” attitude is one of the most important things you have to have as a business owner because a business is all about solving problems and so once you understand that, your job is ultimately to solve a problem that people have.

When it comes to starting your own business, you want to make sure that you're doing something that you're truly passionate about. This is the key to success! You have to consider what your strengths are and what you're passionate about. Cathy Nesbitt joins Elzie to discuss how you find your passion. And once you've found it, how do you turn it into a successful business? Discover how to reach your full potential and become a great entrepreneur.
Highlights:
02:39 I have a good work ethic and I think that’s an important characteristic as an entrepreneur. You need to be motivated.
03:38 When you’re on a purpose and you’re living your dream, magic happens. Really I don’t think, for me, there’s no separation between work and my life.
06:36 Keep a list of things. As an entrepreneur, there's always tasks that you don't want to do so eventually you'll be able to farm those out.
07:01 You don’t have to have some big thing in mind, it really just needs to start with you. Think about what it is that fires you up.
09:09 I chose media as my marketing strategy. When you choose media, people write about you, rather than paying for advertising.

There are many different things that go into making an entrepreneur successful. While having a great product or service to sell is certainly important, it's not the only thing you need. Elzie discusses with Gramps Jeffrey how you also need to be able to choose the right people to help you bring your vision to life and manage your finances responsibly. Find out the key characteristics that will help you achieve success and be an effective entrepreneur!
Highlights:
04:48 You always have to have an extra strategy. You always gotta be thinking about, okay, where am I going to be taking this business?
05:38 You have to have the right products, or the right concept or the right service. You know, that’s very important.
07:59 The key is you have to surround yourself with people that have strengths that you do not and don’t let your ego get in the way.
09:01 One thing that is always in the back of my mind and kept me up is, “Am I gonna make payroll at the end of the week?”
10:24 An entrepreneur has to take responsibility. We learn by failing, unfortunately, but that’s how we learn. That’s why as we get older, we do get wiser because we fail. Don’t be afraid to fail.

In this new episode of the refocused, rebranded, new direction of Enterprise Now, Elzie is joined by Joe Cecala Founder & CEO at Dream Exchange. Joe was a lawyer who worked on many small capital transactions for more than fifteen years. In that time, he saw that small capital transactions, however good, always lack a clear exit. Answering the investor question “How do I sell my investment?” was a constant problem. This, and other problems in raising capital, were especially pronounced in the black community as his firm worked with the Chicago Urban League attempting to help the “Next One” entrepreneurship program.
Listen to this episode as Elzie and Joe talk about the stock exchange, specifically for small businesses, and how businesses will benefit from it. Joe explains how to participate in the stock exchange, and shares resources to close the knowledge gap, as well as current hurdles of the stock exchange.
Highlights:
03:13 - There's only 2 ways to actually sell shares of stock today. One is to take your shares and prepare all the documents needed, registration documents, send them to the government, to the Securities Exchange Commission.
07:55 - A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step so we`re taking the first step in the right direction regardless of what the history has been.
13:01 - If you give a man fish he has food for a day, if you teach a man to fish he has food for a lifetime. But if you build a man both or you help him finance both, now he can feed a city.
19:58 - Focus on your dream, focus on what you`re imagining and focus on how big it can be.
31:01 - Never quit. You can't just give up in anyway. Don't entertain the thought. Maybe it won't work. Those doubts and those reservations, just ignore all of them.
