  • The Science Behind Winning A Penalty Shoot Out
After Euro 2020, it feels like we're all experts in the art of the penalty shoot out.
    [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/07/14125057/DavesWorld_1407.mp3"][/audio]
But while we all might *think* we know what's important, who should have taken it and all the tips and tricks involved, it turns out there's a hell of a lot of science involved.
Football psychology research Geir Jordet has spent the past five years studying penalty shoot outs and he had some fascinating insights which we heard all about in Dave's World.

The penalty shootout in football is the essence of performing under pressure. I spent 5 years of my life studying the Psychology of this event. Here's what I learned, which can also help understanding it in the current Euros/Copa America. Thread based on 10 of our studies. (1/13) pic.twitter.com/Yyt53VN00g

  • Scorchio! How To Stay Sun Safe During The Good Weather
We all know it, and it's hard to accept sometimes but we just don't get good weather a lot in this little island.
    [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/07/13121211/Bernie_SkinCancer.mp3"][/audio]
However, when we do, and given we're all big into the old al fresco socialising these days, being sun smart has never been more important.
Non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland, with melanoma being the fourth most common. There are over 12,114 non-melanoma skin cancers and over 1,197 melanomas diagnosed every year, 154 people die from the disease each year.
But it is preventable, and we can all take small steps every day to mind our biggest organ.
Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Bernie Carter from The Marie Keating Foundation explained the basics of sun safety and why it's a year round issue.
Bernie also spoke about new podcast 'The Marie Keating Foundation Talks Cancer' and how it offers practical advice and help for anyone who has cancer in their lives.

  • Meet The Model Promoting Positive Body Image In Men
In the world of Instagram models, TikTok fitness videos and the lads on Love Island with abs that appear to made out of marble, there's a lot of pressure being placed on young men to aspire towards a certain aesthetic. The result can lead to men struggling with their body image, often taking their search for perfection to extremes whether that's through diet or exercise.
    [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/07/12123400/BenJames_1207.mp3"][/audio]
A lot has been written and discussed around body positivity for women and girls, but in those conversations, men can be forgotten.
One person who is hoping to buck that trend and open the discussion around body positivity in men is Ben James.

A post shared by Ben James (@ben_jjames)
Ben who is, by industry standards, defined as a plus size model, has been speaking out through his social media channels about the importance of embracing the body away from the aesthetics.
Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Ben explained why it's important for more men to speak about their experiences and why Love Island has missed the boat in terms of putting mid-sized men on our screens.

  • How To Stop Pre-Holiday Anxiety And Really Switch Off
Whether it's a staycation or a sun holiday, there is no greater feeling than taking a break.
    [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2021/07/12123307/MYN_Fiona_Holidays_1207.mp3"][/audio]
But, for a lot of people, the most stressful part of holidays can be the pre-holiday anxiety. Whether it's over things like cancelling the milkman, worries about the travel or perhaps concerns about family dynamics, holidays can fill people with dread.
The result is that it might take time to actually switch off when they arrive at their destination.
Fiona Brennan from The Positive Habit knows only all too well about 'pre-holiday anxiety' and she joined Dermot and Dave for Mind Yourself Now where she shared some tips on how you can avoid the stress and really switch off.
