  • How To Deal With Negative People
We all know someone who is very draining
Being positive 100% of the time isn't realistic, we all have our off days, but there are those out there who have the knack of finding a problem for every solution and this can be very taxing for the people around them.
Dermot and Dave recently received this message:
"Hey lads. I love my friend to bits but he's so negative. He seems to always be giving out about something going on in the news or in his life. I really like spending time with him but he never stops moaning. Every time we hang out I end up feeling really drained and physically exhausted. He never stops giving out about people and and I feel like I'm on the defensive on their behalf all the time."
Clinical hypnotherapist and best-selling author of The Positive Habit, Fiona Brennan was at hand to offer her advice on the issue.
If that person is judging others...they are judging themselves much more
Fiona teaches us the 'Happy Hula Hoop' technique, explains why energy management and mental space are so important and reveals why negative people gravitate to their opposites.

  • Maria's Telly - What To Watch This Week
A new flick to Netflix & 'Manifest' coming to Sky One
With a third "mini heatwave" in-a-row hitting Ireland this week, we know you're gonna need something to watch whilst lathering that aloe vera gel on. This is where Maria's Telly comes in handy.
Dermot and Dave producer Maria Devereux guides us through stuff like NBC show Manifest coming to Sky One on Tuesday evening @9pm.
The series, which aired on NBC last September, centres on the passengers and crew of a commercial airliner who suddenly reappear after being presumed dead for more than five years:
With season 2 being confirmed, let's hope it doesn't turn into another Lost.
Maria also chats Love Island finalé and how Curtis' lack of jiving has caused him to pile on the pounds.
Her Movie of the Week is a Netflix newbie called 'Otherhood', where three mothers go on a mission to reconnect with their sons:

  • The People Of Longford Tell Us What They Really Think Of Maura
All hail the new queen of Longford
Maura Higgins has become a household name over the past few weeks all thanks to her antics on Love Island.
The name 'Maura' is gonna skyrocket up the list of baby names in the coming months, you mark my words.
In what was a pretty boring 5th series, the Ballymahon babe burst onto the scene and has since racked up a pretty impressive following online:
Not bad considering she only had a little over 20k followers before she entered.
But what do the people of Longford really think of her? Is she flying the midlands flag good'n high? Or is her zestiness a bit too much?
Dermot and Dave's roving reporter Seán Reidy hit for her hometown to hear what they had to say.

  • Meet The Irish Art Director Who Made The World Of Harry Potter Come To Life
    You're a wizard Alan!
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was first published back in 1997. Since then, the franchise is estimated to be worth over $25 billion. That's a lot of Galleons!
There's no denying J.K Rowling is an absolute genius, being able to conjure up such an amazing fantasy series, but it also takes some serious skills to bring her words to life.
Alan Gilmore is an Art Director from Ennis, Co Clare who helped design features like Hogwarts and the Quidditch Stadium for the movie adaptions.
Being the architectural wizard he is, Alan cast a lumos spell on Today FM's Dermot and Dave to help shed some light on how this magical world was created.
Gilmore tells us how a film set in Donegal sparked off his curiosity, "I was fascinated by this make-believe world of creating something that's not permanent. So I started to pursue that".
Fast forward a few years later and he received a call from a contact that would change his life forever.
Alan, I'm doing this film about wizards and castles

  • Des Bishop On Love Island: "Let's Face It, The Whole Thing Is A Joke Anyway"
But he is a big fan of Maura
He's the New Yorker who's more Irish than a Tayto crisp with red hair sipping on a pint of Guinness whilst asking about the weather, and now Des Bishop is back in town for this weekend's Vodafone Comedy Festival in the Iveagh Gardens, Dublin (all the info is here).
Des popped into Today FM's Dermot and Dave to chat about his gigs and give us a feel for the new show he's working on, which is based on his mother.
Having lost his mum earlier this year, Des is harnessing his grief and says he wants "the ability to explore the things that aren't funny".
He also tells us about his new sex and dating podcast called 'The Shift', where he recently discussed the reality show on everyone's lips.
And for a man who reckons he doesn't watch it, he seems to know his sh*t. We believe ya Bishop...wink wink.
Maura's got a fan in him for sure!

  • Music Promoter Has An Absolute Nightmare With An American Heavy Metal Band
Dermot and Dave welcomed MCD's Leslie McDonagh onto the show to give us some insight into a day in the life of a music promoter via #AskMeAnything
It's a role we often hear about but what is it they actually do?
Leslie reveals just how demanding some bands can be and tells us how much fun Ronnie Wood is to go on the lash with. Perks of the job eh?
But our favourite story has to be the time she was asked to pick up a band and bring them to their gig in The Ambassador, Dublin.
Little did she know that band was NYC heavy metallers Anthrax, which was a little daunting when she rocked up in her Ford Fiesta.
This kicked off a chain of reactions that cost Leslie a fair few quid.

  • This Kildare Lady Can Hold Her Breath For The Length Of Bohemian Rhapsody
The song that is, not the movie
Holding your breath for as long as you can underwater is something we've all tried at some point in our lives and I'd say that 60-120 seconds is a fair estimate as to how long the average person lasts.
Now imagine being able to do it for 360 seconds? Well that's how long freediver Claire Walsh is able to stay submerged and I'm gasping for air just thinking about it!
The Leixlip native will this September become Ireland's first ever competitive freediver when she competes at the AIDA World Freediving Championships in Villefranche sur Mer, France.

  • Noni Getting "Frenchied" In Adare Manor
The Earl of Dunraven is a lucky man
With Adare Manor being announced as the venue for the 2026 Ryder Cup, Dermot and Dave give their pal Noni a call for a history lesson on the property.
The Limerick lady goes waaayyyy back to when the Earl of Dunraven was in charge, him and his wandering hands:
