    • 5 Things I wish I knew when I was 20

Suzanne saw this great Instagram post from Lewis Howes that said “Advice from 40 year old me to 20 year old me: 5 things I wish I knew when I was 20.” We think this is a really good conversation to just talk with someone you’re close to or a teenager in your orbit that maybe doesn’t hear this from their parents, but are able to hear from someone they’re close to or look up to. This is also just a really great question to go and ask your peers, or the people around you and we hope you can enjoy our takes on this episode today.

Advice from 40 year old me to 20 year old me 9:40
      I wish I started sooner 12:25
Believe we can do anything 17:00
You don’t need to be right to know everything 24:40
Don’t compare yourself to anyone 27:55
      Be consistent with everyone 30:30
      Drive beats talent 35:40
Sometimes seemingly insignificant things can turn into great things 42:00
Nobody has it figured out 44:30

“‘I will tell you right now, Tom Brady is not the fastest. He is not the strongest. He just has a champion’s mindset.’ I think to the point of pursue your dreams, right? Drive beats talent. It’s a mindset, you guys. It really is.” 21:18

    • Trend Crushes | Fall 2023

Today on Dear Alice we talk about trend crushes, which is the stuff that we are crushing on right now. Jess talks about the saved button on Instagram and how she has started to prefer this over Pinterest when thinking about her own interests, whereas if she’s working with a client, she will prefer to use Pinterest. We discuss other trend crushes such as the color red, casual styles, monochrome, and kitchens.

      • Trend crushes 12:30
      • Color, red 15:25
      • Casual vs hyper formal 22:30
      • Monochrome 23:35
      • Kitchens 29:50
      • Painting on your walls 36:00
      • Colored upholstery 38:25
      • Plaster 39:00
      •

“It’s fun to go to your Pinterest and see ‘What am I consistently pinning right now that’s a theme?’ It’s fun because you can see these batches of ‘I was into that, and that, and then my algorithm changed.’ or these like, courtyards, specifically with these geometric gates that allow light to come in through peek-a-boos, and so it creates really interesting light shadow plays throughout the day and I have so many of them, and I just love it. It’s totally giving me this global vibe.” 40:40

“My number one tip to people is just to look for galleries around you, look for art shows around you, look for boutiques around you. Try and find the artist. If you fall in love with art, DM them. Talk to them. Find out the story because that’s what makes art so fantastic is the story behind it. You relate to it with your own story.” 9:39

            • Purchasing an Existing Home | How to right the wrongs of past owners

We see a lot of homes in all the work we do and in some of the remodels there are some things that you’re just inheriting. When you purchase a home like this, you have to get really good at planning because it’s not inexpensive to redo the various things you want changed, but there’s a lot of architecture and a lot of things you wouldn’t do today, but they did yesterday. So now it’s your turn to make it right and we think the majority of people are likely in this position who are listening to our podcast right now, so listen in as we give our opinions and expertise on what you should do when you inherit architecture.

“What do you do when you have custom built-ins in the home you purchased and you don’t have the budget to rip it out and rebuild it? How to repurpose, optimize, camouflage, style, paint? Here’s my dilemma, a built in structure between two pillars that separate the kitchen and family room.” 11:16
