Sue and Jess went to High Point Market and got to see what is up and coming for Spring of 2024. This is fashion week for interior designers and much like some people go to New York, or Milan, Sue and Jess go to North Carolina and they get to see what all the furniture makers are up to. The furniture makers are making new silhouettes, using new fabrics and finishes that are gonna be available for this coming Spring, and they’re just kind of seeing what’s new in lighting, rugs, furniture, case goods, mirrors, accessories, and everything across the board. They get to go and buy for this next Spring and with this episode they just want to dig into what they’re seeing in the interior trends so you know what’s coming on the horizon. 

“So we saw fully upholstered sofas in it, chairs with contrast welds, we saw an artwork in textiles, this cabinet from Highland House that is so beautiful high gloss red.” 40:50 “One way that we saw it in fashion week a lot was there’s this LOEWE sandal that they did. It’s a flat sandal that laces up, it’s got these two really cute discs on the side, I think it sold out everywhere, but women would wear just like a light blue Levi’s with this red strappy sandal and get so much credit.” 42:25

This podcast started with a great question in which Sue decided she would write a finals paper for us so that we could then record a podcast for you. We are excited to share this podcast as you guys will be on this journey with us, because we are learning with you at the same time. We received a question from one of our listeners, Monica, that said “I love the timeless yet trendy look of checkered or diamond floors. I’m planning on installing it in my new home, however I’m stuck on scale. Is there a rule for pairing tile size with square footage of a room? I would love for this to be addressed in an episode, thank you.”

“I feel like all 3 of us were the check. We’re gonna be justified with the wall. We’re not gonna throw it on the diagonal, right? I don’t consider myself to be formal or fancy enough and I honestly hate it when people take their shoes off at my house. I’m like ‘Oh no, just please stay comfortable.’ I don’t want anyone to feel like I’m overly fancy.” 30:25

We are talking about our Dear Alice Live recap in this episode. We did a live event here in Draper, Utah and 50% of the people that came were from out of state, and then a lot of our attendees bought E-tickets and had so many questions, which we didn’t have time to answer nor did we even expect there would be questions at the end. We wanted to do an episode dedicated to all of those E-ticket questions and figured probably a lot of you would like to know those answers, so we’re gonna answer those questions here. 

“[Spot tables] are so easy to pick up and they can be so sculptural and so fun. We use spot tables a lot just next to a chair like a quick little pull up, often they can migrate. My kids pull them around all over the place because it’s easier for them to pll up and eat their Lunchable on, or whatever it is. They can just bring it over to this chair and put this drink on it while I’m reading this book.” 37:00

In this week’s episode we are talking about The Gift Guide, our favorite gifts to give, and who to give gifts to. Many of us are last minute kind of people, especially as creatives, and we wanted to talk about some methods or ideas that may help you, especially if you’re an overthinker and the kind of person that just wants to get that perfect gift for that special someone, such as your significant other, family member, best friend, or even coworkers. 

“A little plant is really cute too or an orchid. We have pots right now at Alice Lane from one of our favorite vendors that makes beautiful ginger jars and beautiful Asian pots and stuff, and you just drop an orchid in it or any plant and you’re giving this beautiful thing they can keep on their table, or entry console. Something living is–I love it. I love having plants to love and take care of.” 34:48

Creating a design Northstar is something we do for every client, so we’re gonna take you through how you do that in this week’s episode. We got a question from one of our listeners who is renovating a historic home built in 1790 in Hudson Valley, New York. She is in the middle of a major powder bath and kitchen remodel moving walls, placing windows, the whole deal. She asked how to avoid decision fatigue in these huge projects as she doesn’t want to make mistakes or regret choices. She has found that working with Pinterest and Pinterest mood boards has been helping, but she still would like to know how not to get burnout when making countless decisions over the course of a few months. 

“There are so many different description words and I think when you start to pull your lifestyle I’d be like ‘What do these things have in common? It’s really textural, or it’s very dimensional.’ I think you’ll start to finish your sentence with visuals.” 26:48
