Janna speaks with Ericka about the use of alcohol and how it can become a crutch in intimate situations. Ericka started drinking in high school, initially finding that alcohol eased her anxiety and helped her feel more relaxed before sexual encounters. However, this pattern led to risky situations and a troubling reliance on alcohol to numb out her fears and concerns about sexual performance. The result was a disconnection from her true feelings and intuition.
Now four years sober, Ericka has created a valuable resource kit for women navigating intimacy and sobriety, available at sobrietycurious.com. She’s seen many women in online sobriety groups struggle with the question, "What do I do about sex now that I’m not drinking?" Listen as Ericka shares her journey to a healthier, more authentic way of rediscovering intimacy and self-worth without the haze of alcohol.

We are rebroadcasting one of Janna's favorite episodes: her fascinating conversation with Dr. Tina Schermer Seller, a licensed therapist who specializes in sex and gender issues. Dr. Schermer Seller is the author of one of Janna's favorite and most recommended books, Sex, God, & the Conservative Church – Erasing Shame from Sexual Intimacy.
In this episode, Dr. Schermer Seller discusses her research on the Christian conservative church and the rise of abstinence-only education and purity culture in the early 1980s. Her findings reveal that this shift has had significant negative effects on both women and men, impacting their ability to form meaningful and healthy sexual relationships.
Whether you come from a religious background or not, this discussion will help you understand the global influence of this narrative on our lives and how we can begin the healing process.

We are rebroadcasting our very popular episode with betrayal trauma expert Michelle Mays. Partner betrayal is SO complex compared to other forms of trauma. The lying, manipulation, scapegoating and gaslighting create a cycle of shame of wanting to simultaneously connect and disconnect from a cheating partner.
Michelle shares her own betrayal story and outlines the rationalization, minimization and justification used by cheating partners to make their behaviour ok. She also speaks to the vital importance of restoring the relationship with oneself after experiencing partner betrayal.

We're re-airing one of our most popular episodes (Ep. 27) with Mandy Röscher, a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist based in Brisbane, Australia who specializes in chronic pelvic pain conditions. Painful experiences in the bedroom are unfortunately extremely common for women. Mandy share her extensive knowledge and training with us to shed some light on this rarely-discussed issue.
We tackle the common myths about pelvic pain, explaining how these misconceptions can make the experience even worse for those who suffer from it. Mandy stresses the importance of feeling safe both physically and emotionally while healing, pointing out that recovery is about more than just treating the body. She also breaks down the phrase "it's all in your head," clarifying that while pelvic pain has psychological aspects, it doesn't mean the pain isn't real. She shares her insights on the natural variety of female vulvas, based on her experience with hundreds of cases, to reassure everyone that there's no "normal" down there. Finally, Mandy dives into the different types of pelvic pain and what each one feels like, giving us a thorough understanding of this complex issue.
