In 2016 when we started, not many young women in our immediate circle competed, we felt a little like outcasts! Social media wasn’t as common and the stereotypical bodybuilders were men or figure models. Our big break was to head down to the local supplement store and hope to receive some sort of discount code or sponsorship.

Now, competing and fitness is being highlighted more commonly on social media, there are more divisions to include more kinds of people and the marketing is less about stalls at fitness expos and more about catchy click bait and an online presence.

We notice that the industry is heading away from just being about “fitness” and more focus being placed on health and wellness, which we love. We predict that what is currently becoming mainstream, will perhaps taper down to more of a niche again when people realise that competing is not simply a progression to weight training in the gym.
