In this episode, we are honored to be joined by Bek Hoskins, a remarkable individual who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2000, just before her 11th birthday. Over the years, Bek has transformed her initial feelings of shame into a powerful force for good, striving to make a meaningful impact in the world.
As the Maine State Advocacy Team Chair for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) since 2013, Bek has been at the forefront of advocating for affordable insulin and federal funding for diabetes research. Recently, she had the opportunity to share her personal journey before Congress, shedding light on the challenges faced by those living with diabetes and the critical need for support and accessible treatments.
Throughout her journey, Bek has found solace in advanced diabetes technologies such as the Dexcom G6 and Tandem T-Slim with IQ technology, which have played a significant role in effectively managing her T1D. Beyond her advocacy work, on October 22nd 2023 Bek is pursuing the title of Mrs. Maine 2024. Using this platform to raise awareness about type 1 diabetes and inspire others to achieve extraordinary accomplishments despite life-threatening diseases.
