Can sexuality and spirituality overlap? For many of us, these topics come with a long history of shame imposed by puritanical belief systems (like… you won’t “go to heaven” if you have sex before marriage… WHAT?!) But in this episode, we’re opening the door to taboo topics.
Today I’m joined by Courtney Brooke, a licensed social worker and trauma-informed behavioral health therapist who is generously sharing her story. From being sent to marriage and motherhood classes at ten years old to entering the world of sex work, Courtney knows what it means to meet the intersection of spirituality and sexuality head on.
As we seek sexual liberation and pleasure-filled lives, shame and trauma come to a head, leaving us grappling with how to move forward. Growing up in certain religions, cultures and even zip codes affect our view of sex, and Courtney has such a refreshing take on topics from sex work to open relationships.
Anyone who is coming into themselves as a sexual being, trying to heal from sexual shame, and considering alternative relational dynamics - this is for you.
