In today’s solo episode I talk about the dawn phenomenon, a term known well among those with diabetes, simply put are those frustrating nighttime and morning highs.
Discover 7 Tips and Top Foods to Boost Insulin Sensitivity During Hormonal Changes!
Between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m., blood sugar levels rise naturally due to hormonal shifts, like increased growth hormones and cortisol, leading to insulin resistance. Your body, protecting and providing glucose for the day, undergoes this process, happens to all of us, with or without diabetes.
However, armed with a CGM or glucometer, it can be a challenging start to your day.
Today I Talk About 10 Factors That Impact Glucose:
1. Food (i.e. high fat dinner will delay glucose metabolism and sugar rise)
2. Insulin on board
3. Basal rate
4. Stress
5. Low Hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone)
6. Caffeine
7. Poor Sleep
8. Alcohol
9. Sickness
10. Pump malfunction
However, in menopause, there are slight variations. estrogen is dropping, we become insulin resistant, with all this happening, you're also getting poor sleep that causes more insulin resistance. With this vicious cycle, listen in to steps you can take now
For a better night’s sleep and improve your relationship with diabetes, be sure to listen until the end. For my 8 specific steps you can take now. Learn how to be more aware of the causes, how to lower stress hormone, cortisol and how estrogen impacts insulin sensitivity.
