Mariya Charlton is a home birth doula and sobadora in Austin, Texas, who empowers mothers to reclaim their people’s ancestral wisdom and birthing practices. After her own traumatic first birth in a hospital setting, Mariya became a doula to champion women's autonomy during pregnancy and labor. Her subsequent redemptive home birth ignited a second passion to teach women how to foster a nurturing postpartum community support system. As a mother of two, she aims to teach her own children to embrace the future while honoring and studying the past.
