Your brain is a big ole’ know-it-all.

Its job is to keep you alive, and the more it knows, the more assumed certainty it has, the better it can do that job. It’s a know-it-all because it loves you and it wants to do well by you. 

One of the ways minds scramble for assumed certainty is to compare. Minds create your identity–who they think you are–and then compare that creation to everything and everyone.Which is fine, really. It’s just what minds do. But it can make a life feel very small when we take our mind’s comparisons as truth.

They are not truth. They are not accurate, even when they feel really, really accurate. They are just another way a mind does what a mind does. The more we can see about these universal mind processes, the freer from them we are.
