Welcome to episode 290 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am delighted to welcome Gavin Vance to the podcast. In this episode, we discuss erectile dysfunction, how he became interested in this area of work, and the roles jealousy and infidelity play around this issue.
Gavin Vance is a Ph. D candidate studying evolutionary psychology under the supervision of Dr Todd K. Shackelford. Gavin received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Michigan – Flint in the Fall semester of 2017, and his Master of Science in Psychology from Oakland University during the Summer semester of 2020 after defending his master’s thesis.
Gavin's research interests, broadly, focus on human evolved psychology, patterns of romantic relationships, and human mate preferences. In particular, he is interested in studying men’s evolved sexual psychology and the consequences of these psychological adaptations on men’s behavior in romantic relationships.
Gavin has published two manuscripts investigating the relationship between ED and men’s abusive, partner-directed behaviors, with several additional manuscripts currently submitted to various research journals. He has also published a manuscript investigating mate preferences in older men and women. Gavin's dissertation work focuses on women’s physiological adaptations to prevent pregnancy during rape and assesses vaginal acidity and lubrication in response to sexually coercive audio stimuli. Gavin hopes to eventually become employed as a tenure-track faculty member at a research university.
