Thank you for joining us for another episode of the Low Carb MD Podcast. Dr. Maira Soliani is a low-carb anesthesiologist from Brazil. Dr. Soliani graduated in 2009 and concluded her anesthesiology specialty in 2013. She holds a PhD since 2016 from Campinas State University (UNICAMP) in Brazil. After realizing that a great part of her patients' postoperative complications were closely related to modern chronic metabolic diseases and that low-carb, high-healthy-fat (LCHF) diets and fasting could prevent them from becoming sick in the first place, she started treating patients with metabolic diseases and obesity in her clinic in Brazil.
In this conversation, Drs. Tro, Brian, and Maira talk about the work of Gary Taubes and Dr. Jason Fung, how Maira started treating patients using a low-carb lifestyle intervention approach, how often a doctor should meet with a patient for optimal results, the logistics and organization involved in providing excellent, dedicated service to a large amount of patients, defining and treating food addiction, loneliness, metabolic disease, and mental health, the importance of social support as a factor for success with one's diet, the power of mindset, studies on the placebo effect, the power of motivational interviewing, and The Hacking of the American Mind by Robert Lustig.
