In this weeks episode of Ask Dr Jessica, Dr Pieter Cohen discusses vitamins and supplements. Many people take a variety of vitamins and supplements, but how do we know what is actually beneficial? Are these supplements appropriately regulated by the FDA? Are there any well-done studies that show a benefit to supplements? In what circumstances are vitamins and supplements recommended?
Dr Pieter Cohen leads the "Supplement Research Program" and over the past 15 years, Dr Coehn has investigated the experimental ingredients in dietary supplements. Men's Health Magazine recently called Pieter the "Toxic Supplement Hunter" because he has become the leading voice on supplement safety in the United States. His goal is to help all patients be more knowledgeable about the potential benefits and risks of supplements.
Dr Cohen is a practicing internist at Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge Massachusetts. He graduated from Yale Medical School and he currently is an Associated professor at Harvard Medical School.
Dr Jessica Hochman is a board certified pediatrician, mom to three children, and she is very passionate about the health and well being of children. Most of her educational videos are targeted towards general pediatric topics and presented in an easy to understand manner.
