Emil Zatopek won the 5000m, 10000m and the Marathon at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games in the same fortnight.
This has never been done by anyone else in history.
To add to this astonishing achievement, it was his first time running the marathon.
Zatopek was known to train on his own in the harsh Czech winters, regularly completing insane workouts such as 50x400m, 100x100m as well as carry his wife on his back for resistance training.
This interview is with Richard Askwith who studied Emil Zatopek’s life and wrote the book Today We Die a Little: The Rise and Fall of Emil Zátopek, Olympic Legend.
Richard set off on a journey to Prague and personally interviewed many people close to Zatopek.
